Writing Articles - Stats and Results

Hey, seems you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I wrote a couple posts before about writing articles and how it can help increase your PR, links to your site and drag traffic to your blog/site. We can all use more linkbacks to our sites! And having your links and articles (or even book reviews) posted on articles directories that are usually PR4 and higher can help a lot!

So i thought it would be a good to share my results on here, i took snapshots of some “articles stats” from different articles directories/databases, and as you’ll see it’s not getting a load of traffic, and not sending much to my blog either, but the snapshots i took are from sites where i posted between 2 and 4 articles, you can easily drag more traffic if you have 10-20 + articles submitted. But you’ll get the idea. Check out the images.

Stepping Out Of Your Comfort Zone

It’s always hard to step out of your comfort zone, but when you do get to step out of it, you definatly improve yourself! They key there is to expand your comfort zone! We all fear different things, and fear is one of the strongest human emotion! But when we overcome those fears, well our comfort zone gets bigger and expands, thus increasing our self-confidence and self-esteem! Which is always good!

Conquering your fears and expanding your comfort zone doesn’t mean jumping in and making blind decisions! To expand your comfort zone you have to take calculated risks, stop procrastinating, and it’ll expand! And as it expands, you will most probably feel better, and get more things done in less time!

So how do we do this? Well here are a couple of tips you can use that may be helpful:

Creative Work Can Pay Off Big Time!

Whether you’re a musician, a designer, a writer (or any other type of “creative worker”)… your hard work can pay off! Big time! I know many people who are still recieving checks for creative work they did many many years back! For sure creating something and focussing on it probably won’t pay off right away, and can be kinda time consuming, but if you can manage to do it anyway (start part-time, and when you make more money with that than working for a boss, just quit your job!), you can probably expect to see checks coming in eventually!

That’s one of the ways musicians make money! (I for sure know about that, since i’m a musician myself!) You compose, record, rehearse, spend a lot of time on your music, and then launch your album, and if it works you will start getting checks in the mail! Of course it’s not like that all the time, most creations will never see the day, but if you can put enough efforts and energy into your creative work it will definatly pay off one day or the other!

Make Your Site Appealing, But Don’t Over-Emphasize On The Flashy Stuff!

Whether you run a blog, a website, or build a sales page, you certainly want people to either subscribe to your mailing list, rss feed, or simply buy your products or the products you’re promoting.

But some folks seems to put to much emphasis on flashy graphics, annoying ads and animated stuff, like overwhelming animated gifs, floating ads, pop-ups, or interstitials, and the likes. It can get pretty annoying, and actually make people click away from your page (in my opinion), which is something you don’t want! You want them to stay on there, read more, participate, and potentially buy (provided you actually have something to sell)!

Here’s my “not” to-do list:

Showcase Your Workstation!

You know i love contests, especially when it comes to blogging, computers, internet, and the likes (ok, ok, money contests are great too!), and Gary Lee over at mrgarylee.com has an interesting contest! (and you can win a Motorola HT820 Bluetooth Stereo Headset, which is pretty cool!) Simply show off your home workstation! What does your work space looks like?

To read more about this contest, head over to Gary Lees’ blog!

Many of us work from home, or at least do some work from home! So why not showcase our workstations a little? This could be fun! :)

Here’s mine (details below):

How To Deal With People

Anthony over at antbag.com has an interesting post about impossible people, that made me think a lot (that’s always a good thing).

It happens from time to time you meet someone who it seems you just can’t deal with! It surely happened to you before… well it happened to me just today, i was working (on a contract for a market research firm here in Montreal), and that guy just came up to me and oh my god… at some point in the conversation, i just had to leave! I tried my best to focus and stay kinda calm and tried to find good stuff in the conversation, but i had to leave… and i did! (thanx to that other guy who asked me a question, i saved me!)

Becoming Outstanding

I really really like to read about self-improvement and personal development, and i try to write posts about this topic from time to time on smartwealthyrich. Well Alex Shalman started this “Becoming an Outstanding person in 12 weeks” series of posts, and i think it’s really worth mentionning and could benefit my readers and visitors (yes you!)

The goal here is to improve ourselves, by focusing on a different “virtue” every week. Simply write in your journal (or on your blog) a new entry every week, and focus on that particular virtue for the whole week. At the end of that week you’ll surely have learned something and forged a habit.

Contest - Header Art

Some of you may already know i’m in the process of redesigning smartwealthyrich. I actually need a header image (or you may call this “header art“) for the new design i’m working on! I could, of course, design one myself, but why not make a contest out of it?

Only 3 rules, the rest is up to you:

  • Header dimensions should be 860px X 140px
  • The header image should in some way reflect the theme of this blog, which you can find out by checking the categories section in the sidebar
  • *Edit 2007-03-28 — Header file size should not be more than 30 to 38kb, feel free to send your header anyway even if it’s over that size, but if you can compress it, and still keep a good quality it would be awesome!
  • So what’s in for you? [Read more →]

Watch Your Health - Take A Break

Are you’re sitting at your computer writing new blog posts (or commenting on others, like this one for instance?) or designing a new blog or something right now?

How long have you been sitting there drinking coffee and working on whatever you are working on?

Well, take a break! Go for a walk, head to the gym… hey your health is important! Really! What would happen if you could not sit down on a chair for more than 30 minutes because your back hurts? (it happpened to me once many years back when i was working in a call center, and let me tell you it hurts bad!)… well, you surely wouldn’t be blogging huh? Better be safe than sorry, so watch it!

And i’m not suggesting you take a break and go for a walk just because i care about your physical health, but because it can help a bunch on your creativity too! You have no idea what to write about? Well, go read some other blogs, then before heading back to your own site to write that new post…go outside, play with your kids, your dog, or go training… but whatever you do, don’t write that post right away! You want a fresh perspective, fresh eyes, clear your mind, and then go ahead, and write that post! You’ll notice the difference!

You wanna be wealthy, or rich? Or both? Well start by making a smart decision.. take a break sometimes!
