Avoid getting a job - Or make sure not to keep it for too long

20 March 2007 No Comment

I truly believe that experience is something we all could use more of. So getting a job, or switching job is way fine! But why stay in the same job for years? Unless you completely enjoy what you do, your job, your workplace, and that you love your boss… why not switch job and get a different experience working for another company?

But… having a job still means exchanging time for money. It’s really ok to get a job, gain experience, quit this job, get another one, gain more experience… but usually it means using your previous experiences to fulfill the requirements of your new job, so you end up repeating the same thing over and over again, what really changes then is your workplace.

The experience you gain while working for a company can, of course, help you later on, no doubts there, but i like to see a job as a “do i really want to do this?” kind of thing.

For example, if i wanted to buy a restaurant.. would i just go ahead an buy it, and start working and managing my restaurant? Of coure not! I would first get a job in a restaurant, work there for a couple weeks or months, and then i’d probably say to myself something like:

umm.. not what i expected.. let’s find something else, and make sure you don’t buy a restaurant buddy!

Or if i liked it, i would think about it a little more, and maybe go ahead with the process and finally i would own my restaurant! If you’re planning on starting your own business, having your own store or something, why not work for a similar company for a while to get the taste of what it’s like?

So why should you avoid getting a job?

  • Because you usually get paid based on how many hours you work..
  • You get a paycheck every 2 weeks.. and you won’t get more than that!
  • A huge part of the money you make is not even yours! Ever heard about taxes?
  • You have to be nice and all with your boss, even if he’s a big prick!
  • Your kid is sick? Sorry gotta go to work…your boss needs you! Don’t you dare calling sick!
  • You get 4 weeks of “vacation” per year (more or less).. what about 52 weeks instead?
  • You help someone else make money… the company you’re working for that is… They are in the business to make profits! What about you?
  • Ok, i could go on and on with that, but you get the idea. So why not be your own boss and be self-employed, there are a lot of ways to generate revenues when you are jobless!

The security of a paycheck means nothing to me, i prefer not having that feeling of security, and make more money!
