Good Press VS Bad Press

10 March 2007 No Comment

We all know good press is a good thing (duh!), if your an artist, a business man or business woman.. good press (or just good first impression) can get you that next contract or that next big deal! We all judge by our first impression (though many of us say we don’t.. in fact we do! all the time!)… so yeah, a good impression, good review, good press can definatly help your career, business or even your blog!

We all want good press! (my guess!)

But what about bad press? controsersial, and even schocking topics or ways of saying, writing, or thinking! How can it help your business, career, blog, website, or whatever else, to be successful? Well a lot of artists base their careers on bad press! And it works! People love to criticize others!

Again… even if we say we don’t criticize, we all do it anyway!

Bad press can in fact be a good thing! Doing it right (don’t go overboard), can help bring more people to your site, blog, or (as a musician.. if you read my about me page) help sell more albums! Don’t get me wrong here, i believe that the right attitude can make or break your projects! But could you use some bad press? Of course you could!! Say you write something about a really controversial topics, and express yourself on that topic… well you can be sure many many people will reply (talking about blogs here) and people will criticize and judge and talk about it! (even for days, if not weeks!).

In the blogosphere, attracting more readers, visitors is what we all want (i think)… so why not write about something “outside” and “schocking”? I’m not saying to go and write about celebrities or something cruel or anything… but maybe write something that will make people go “woah.. what?” could be a good thing!

If you write something that people will disagree with, well.. way to go! People will comment, people will reply, and people will judge!! That’s just the way it is! Controversial topics are sure-shot if you want to increase your traffic, or improve your career! Just gotta be really careful, don’t hurt anyone in the process! Bad press “can” be a good thing! If you use it with care! But also keep in mind that it may also break it…and you don’t want that!

It all comes down to: what type of press do you want? good or bad? If “good” is what you answered, well it’s awesome! But if on the other hand you answered “bad”.. you have to be ready to bear with the fact that people will see you, and/or your blog as controversial!

What do you think? Do you know any sites or blogs that are relying on “bad press” and controversial topics? What do you think of that? Would you do it? How can it affect your business/blog?
