One Day Blog Silence

Pillar Content vs Link Trains

With the quantity of link trains and memes and tag games that many bloggers started lately, it got me wondering if blogs were starting to get a little deprived of quality pillar content and articles. I’m sure “guilty” of participating in some memes and link trains, though i haven’t really jumped in the technorati train and the mybloglog train (but thanx anyway to the people who linked to me, cause my blog was included in both trains not too long after they started), because i don’t feel those are really worth. I prefer memes that helps others achieve their goals and are beneficial to everyone, like group writing projects, without “cheating the system“. Sure you get a couple of links back, and you can get on the top 100 most favorited blogs on technorati if you jump in early. But how useful is it?

Let’s explore the “link trains” phenomenon (if we can call this like that), and please share your experiences and thoughts! [Read more →]

Sure Fire Ways To Boost Your Creativity And Find Inspiration

Most writers, bloggers, artists or business people will, on day or the other, experience something similar to “writers’ block” or simply find their creativity levels are not really high. There are days like these, where creativity is just not there and you don’t feel inspired, but you want to focus on writing that new blog post, write a couple pages for your next book, or work on that new project, but you can’t… imagination, ideas, creativity are just, absent.

It happens from time to time, no worries, it’s completely normal, we’re humans and we should not expect ourselves to be inspired and creative all the time. Some days it’s easy to write or work on your projects, some days it’s hard.

So here are some tips and tricks i found to be really useful. Remember, what works for one may not work for everyone, so take what you think is good and leave the rest behind, and of course feel free to add your 2 cents and leave your comments, share your experiences and your own tips and tricks. Update - RSS Feed Readers

First i’d like to thank all of you who read my blog through RSS! It’s awesome! One thing though, when you run a blog, wordpress provides you with a default RSS link which usually looks like this:

http://smartwealthyrich.com/feed/

And since some time i’m running my RSS Feed with Feedburner, and the URL looks like this:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/smartwealthyrich

To keep on improving my blog and keep on tweaking stuff, it’s always a good idea to keep track of statistics. Unfortunatly wordpress doesn’t keep track of the number of RSS subscribers, but Feedburner does.

So i installed a nice little plugin called “Feedburner Feed Replacement“, that fowards the default yourdomain.com/feed/ to your feedburner URL. So this way it’ll be easier to keep track of the number of people that reads my blog through RSS. And it’ll be easier for me to make changes to my site that you, the end users, will benefit! :)

PageRank Update

Seems SmartWealthyRich will have a PageRank 4!
I found this post today that Nate Whitehill wrote, regarding Googles’ PageRank update. There’s this nice tool you can use to see what your Page Rank will be when Big Brother will be done updating all its datacenters :)

So what will your new Page Rank be? :)

More Features = More Benefits - Your Input Would Be Greatly Appreciated!

Hello hello! I’ve been thinking about adding a couple of new features, sections and services, on SmartWealthyRich, and would like to have some feedback and thoughts from you, my loyal readers (and casual visitors), please take some time to share your thoughs, i would appreciate it greatly!

Directory

Actually i’m thinking about adding 3 sections/services on here, first one being a directory, because my sidebar is getting a little messy, and i think it would be more beneficial for the people i link to, to have their blogs listed in a “directory” section, and in the posts i write (if you have a blog post that’s relevant to what i’m writing about, i will be happy to link to it, provided i know about it), so that means i would link to more blogs in my posts (nothing spammy, don’t worry) and i would be able to feature more sites in the directory section. Google - Please Get Your Act Together

You probably know how much i like Google, but, after reading and reading, Google is starting to get a little on my nerves and is moving towards the top of my “WTF” list. I’ve read many many blog posts about this and felt i could share it with you guyz and galz, and also ask you what you think of all this. Is Google right or wrong?

Let me explain the situation a little more.

You probably know about google adsense (most webmasters, bloggers and surfers/visitors do), Adsense displays contextual ads on websites, and the site/blog owner earns money every time someone clicks on an “ads by Gooooogle” ad. Which is a great way to earn some extra cash from your blog or website.

The problem Google is facing now, is that a lot of site owners, bloggers and companies (some companies are fairly large and have some “authority”) are selling text link ads (which is another great way to monetize a website by the way), and Google doesn’t like that, at all! I suppose Google doesn’t like this because they don’t get any money from text links sold by other companies. And probably because this messes up their PageRank system, since it’s based on relevancy and not on “purchased traffic or links”.

So What Now?

Blog Catalog Launches Discussion Forums

BlogCatalog Discussion ForumsI wrote a post yesterday about community sites and social networks. So this post is sort of like a quick follow up on that, and to let you guyz/galz know the folks over at blogcatalog just launched a new discussion forum. Spent some time yesterday trying to “break things”, and it seems to run pretty smoothly now, so it’s open to everyone. :)

If you already have a blogcatalog account, simply log on to your account and you’ll see, on the sidebar (to the right) a banner (the same vertical banner i put in this post), simply click on it to check out the forums. If you don’t already have a blogcatalog account you can submit your blog for approval here. Feel free to start a new post and join in the discussions, make this interactive and fun. Of course, keep in mind usual forum rules, like no spam, no bashing…etc..

If you have any suggestions, i’m sure the folks over at blogcatalog would be happy to hear what you have to say, what can be improved, modified, added, you can find their contact information on their contact page. Or simply start a new post in the forums.

Have fun!

Nice Way To Fund Your Advertisement - Cross-Selling

Todays’ post is geared a little more towards “making money” (don’t worry i left out the John Chow Evilness!) but still has a good dose of “smart“, since this site is titled smartwealthyrich and not just rich.com (though i’d like to have a premium domain like that)! How cool is that? I can write about almost anything and still be on topic! Well it seems like everyone is writing about making money, so why not jump in?

Some will probably say that marketing online is difficult, and some will even say it’s cruel (yeah, i’ve heard that before), some will say it’s impossible to make any decent amount of money. In fact, it all depends on what techniques you use, and some works better than others. Here are some tips that can help pull really healthy profits (yep, more money!). [Read more →]

Community and Social Networking Sites - Should You Care?

Recently i’ve been trying to find ways to meet new internet entrepreneurs, like-minded people and sites/blogs with similar topics as mine. I’ve joined MyBlogLog some time ago, and joined Blog Catalog just recently. Mybloglog has been awesome so far, i’ve met a lot of interesting people through there, and that’s what kick-started my blog 3 months ago.

For those of you not really familiar with MyBlogLog, check out Joshuas’ post over at Time For Blogging. Joshua wrote a really nice tutorial on how to get traffic from MyBlogLog.

Why should you care / or not?

I strongly believe that social (and even profesional) networking sites or community sites like mybloglog, blog catalog, linkedin, facebook and even myspace (though i hate myspace, i think it’s the worst site design ever, but they must be doing something good..) are excellent ways to get more exposure (and traffic) and find people to interact with, and maybe visit your site or blog. Gotta make damn sure you’re not spamming, by the way!
