Becoming Outstanding

I really really like to read about self-improvement and personal development, and i try to write posts about this topic from time to time on smartwealthyrich. Well Alex Shalman started this “Becoming an Outstanding person in 12 weeks” series of posts, and i think it’s really worth mentionning and could benefit my readers and visitors (yes you!)

The goal here is to improve ourselves, by focusing on a different “virtue” every week. Simply write in your journal (or on your blog) a new entry every week, and focus on that particular virtue for the whole week. At the end of that week you’ll surely have learned something and forged a habit.

Here are the 12 virtues (remember Benjamin Franklin?) that Alex talks about in his becoming outstanding series:

  • Week 01 - Temperance
  • Week 02 - Silence
  • Week 03 - Order
  • Week 04 - Resolution
  • Week 05 - Frugality
  • Week 06 - Industry
  • Week 07 - Sincerity
  • Week 08 - Justice
  • Week 09 - Moderation
  • Week 10 - Cleanliness
  • Week 11 - Tranquility
  • Week 12 - Chastity
  • I would like to invite you to give that a try! You have not much to loose, and a lot to gain from doing that exercice! Hey you might end up a being better person after those 12 weeks! :)

    1. This sounds really fun. I am always looking for ways to improve myself. I ran “The world’s toughest half ironman triathlon” last year because I felt like I needed a physical challenge and a lesson in motivation.

Maybe I will try this one out.

    2. Toughest Half Ironman Triathlon, yeah that sounds like a challenge! Physical challenge is just as important as mental challenge! I’m actually working on “temperance” now :)

    3. I am going to seriously try this out and see what happens. My journal is going to be 12 notepad documents. This is a great list of virtues that anyone can learn a thing or two about:)

      What week are you on?

    4. Hey James! I’m happy you’ll try that out! I’m at week #1 still, but already enjoying the exercice!

    5. Good job on the triathlon!

    6. I think that is a pretty good method, although pretty time consuming. An easier approach to become an outstanding person, is just to be considerate of others and in a lot of instances just use common sense as to what the best path is that will be most beneficial for you and others in any given situation.
