Blog Catalog Launches Discussion Forums

BlogCatalog Discussion ForumsI wrote a post yesterday about community sites and social networks. So this post is sort of like a quick follow up on that, and to let you guyz/galz know the folks over at blogcatalog just launched a new discussion forum. Spent some time yesterday trying to “break things”, and it seems to run pretty smoothly now, so it’s open to everyone. :)

If you already have a blogcatalog account, simply log on to your account and you’ll see, on the sidebar (to the right) a banner (the same vertical banner i put in this post), simply click on it to check out the forums. If you don’t already have a blogcatalog account you can submit your blog for approval here. Feel free to start a new post and join in the discussions, make this interactive and fun. Of course, keep in mind usual forum rules, like no spam, no bashing…etc..

If you have any suggestions, i’m sure the folks over at blogcatalog would be happy to hear what you have to say, what can be improved, modified, added, you can find their contact information on their contact page. Or simply start a new post in the forums.

Have fun!

On to another subject now, yesterday my blog got bombarded with spam, so if you left a comment it is very possible it got deleted, i’m really sorry about that, but i recieved something like 240 spam in less than 10 minutes, and since i moderate all the comments, it was a real pain, i turned on akismet, so we’ll se how it goes. Now, if you leave a comment and it gets deleted or you notice something weird please use my contact form and let me know about it, I’d appreciate that a lot! Thank you! :)

  1. Beautifully Done! When are you going to add Writing to your list of categories?

  2. Hello Ann, thanx for stopping by and replying! Welcome to SWR :)

Honestly i haven’t thought of that, this is a great suggestion, i will add it to my list of categories for sure!

  3. Akismet is awesome! I deleted my entire blog’s database last summer after finding over 100,000 spam comments (I kid not). Since then, I’ve used Akismet and only three spam comments have made it through.

  4. Hi Angela, wow that’s a lot of spam, akismet sure does the job :)

  5. My World of Warcraft blog http://stroppsworld.com got hit by a huge amount of comment spam within a few weeks of launch. (I must have been doing something right to get noticed so fast.) One lunch time at work I tried accessing it and the whole site was blocked by the corporate web censor. It freaked me out completely!

That night I installed Akismet and haven’t had to worry since. I must sound like a broken record on this, but (not affiliated with Akismet in any way) I highly recommend it and tell everyone so. ;-) And now that Wordpress installs it by default, I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t use it.

  6. Hi Ripley! akismet is awesome, saved me last night :) i’ve read about other spam filters, but akismet does the job, though i might check out other options (never know) so if any of you have suggestions, send ‘em my way please!

  7. The new feature they had was really neat. I wonder where it’ll catch on from their. Yea, and spam is indeed a real pain. And, they seem to target only some of my really old posts, which is weird.

  8. I don’t have a huge traffic but spam comments awwww, I do get many. One funny thing i noticed is that whenever I put up a new post, withing a few minutes i a few spam comments related to that post. I have no clue how that happens.

    See you mate and cheers.

  9. HI lyndonmaxewell. thanx for stopping by, make yourself at home :)

That new feature is really neat, will probably help them increase the traffic and make it more interactive.

Hey Robin, same here mate, it’s a little annoying, but the spam i got 2 days ago was really something, one after another, it wouldn’t stop, now my worry days are over :)

  10. Jonathan the one thing missing is a terms of service & privacy policy.

  11. Hi Rose, I agree, a clear “guidelines” post would be a good thing.
