Blogs And Online Publications Can Help Save The Environment

Yep, October 15 is Blog Action Day. A project started by Collis and Cyan of FreelanceSwitch and Leo of ZenHabits. There’s around 15,500 blogs participating (including the Official Google Blog and the YouTube Blog), pretty cool heh? :)
All of my earnings from SWR today will go to the World Wildlife Foundation/Save Our Climate. I donated money to the WWF before, and I think today is a great occasion to contribute again, and maybe help a little. Cause even “a little” helps. :)
If you’re a blogger I guess you see what I mean by the title of my post. If you’re not a blogger, let me ask you: how many times a week do you buy the newspaper? Why not read the latest news online instead (it’s faster anyway, wait! that applies to bloggers also!)? It costs absolutely nothing, and it helps save trees.
Awareness?
Before I decided to registered my blogs to Blog Action Day I thought: damn! not another “let’s talk about it” project…, I’m tired of “being aware“…
Talking about it won’t change anything, doing something will! But after reading more on the B.A.D. site and blog (sounds pretty good heh? B.A.D. Blog!) I decided to sign up. And god, I’m happy I did, 12.5 million RSS Readers! woah! That’s not a small scale project reaching a couple thousand readers, that’s huge, massive! Maybe talking about it is not so bad after all, provided you actually do something :)
How Can You Help?
Apart from the obvious stuff like turning off the lights, walking to work, shutting down your computer, subscribing to e-billing, what else can you do? How can blogging help the environment?
Someone once told me about a WordPress plugin called WP-Print, that makes your posts/articles print friendly. I see the point, many people like to print out articles and like to read “paper” instead of “computer screen“, well, that is one plugin I will not download.
If you’re reading this blog (or anyone of my blogs), please do not print my posts/articles. Save trees. ;)
*note: did you write a post about BlogActionDay? If so, lemme know in the comments. Thanks!

Whew — finally, someone thinking!
I’ve always seen that plugin and thought, “Why on earth are so many people printing web pages? Kinda goes against the whole idea…”
Hey Adam, hehe yeah that defeats the whole purpose of the internet. If you can read it online, don’t hit “print” :)
Everyone can make a difference! If you are passionate about stopping global warming and the environment you should check out this website http://www.nvisioncfl.com . Changing to CFLs is a great way for individual people to really make a difference! You should also check out this site http://www.youtube.com/user/helpourworld for more ideas on how to help our world!
Jon, this was something no body probably thought about. Kudo’s to your thoughts, ok I am taking my printer offline ;-)
Hey Jon! You may want to check out my post. It’s not quite like the others :)
Title might hype blogs a bit but they are very, very powerful. Blogs like yours that get quality readers will help raise awareness like you stated. It’s a way of giving power to the people without the price of network T.V. attached.
Hi Kristinam thanks for the links :)
Hey Ritu, hehe, no more printers! I never use mine anyway!
Hi Armen, wow awesome post buddy!
Matthew, you’re right, although I don’t think we actually have to “raise awareness”, we’re already really aware (really aware!), gotta do something now. :)
But it is also true that some people will always prefer books over net, when it comes to reading. The touch of paper cannot replace the feeling of a keyboard.
Say NO to print!
