Guest Post On BloggingTips - CSS Galleries And Traffic

Hey, seems you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Hey folks, just a quick one to let you know I wrote a guest post on BloggingTips and it got published today. Have a look, read, and feel free to leave a comment! :)

Most bloggers are looking for more traffic and a wider audience, so I wrote this post on how to get traffic from CSS galleries. Many blogs I read used this technique to get the ball rolling, and get traffic when they started. Mixing this with social networking can definitely bring in a more than decent number of visitors.

Hope you like the post!

Take care!

Never Underestimate The Power Of Personal Recommendation

Every single day bloggers write posts, and often link out to other blogs, and recommend articles to their readers, which is something I do every Sunday with my “smart posts worth reading” posts.

First, I do this because I really liked the posts, and also because I like to give some exposure to other bloggers, and I think the articles/post I link to are relevant, and I hope my readers enjoy them. It’s like a personal recommendation, from me to my readers. And many many bloggers do something similar, often called “Speed Linking” or “Link Love” or something similar. [Read more →]

Link Building Made Easy - Too Easy?

Today it’s rather easy to get blogs and sites to link to your own blog(s), but after taking a look at the latest trends in the blogosphere and collecting some data it got me wondering if some of those link building practices were actually any good. Some are awesome, and some and totally useless. Some have obvious benefits and add value, while others are simply annoying.

A post by Wendy Piersall (coolest eMom!) titled “Is The DoFollow Movement Getting Exploited” really got me wondering if link building was getting maybe a little too easy, especially after I checked my spam filter and found out I got around 5000 spam comments in less than 3 weeks (yes! 5 thousand!), and found out that some URLs in older comments were redirecting to questionable websites.

Feel free to add to the discussion, I welcome every comment, positive or negative! Let’s talk about it, I’d like to know what you think. [Read more →]

Work-At-Home Tips From A Work-At-Home-Aholic

Yes, I work from home, I’m a freelance writer, publisher, and I’m a musician, and I so love my job(s)! I’m not a work-aholic though! I guess you could say I’m a “work-at-home-aholic“, which is totally different. Freelance-aholic sounds good too!

I feel more motivated and enriched working from home and as a freelance worker than I ever did working for any company. But being a “work-at-home-aholic” is not always easy. Many people will say working from home is not like a career (read: working for a big company, paycheck every 2 weeks, dental plan and all). Well, nope, it isn’t like working for a big company, but it sure requires as much involvement and efforts, and it is a career. And sometimes I work for longer periods of time than I used to when I was at my 9-5 job (and it’s fine with me, love it). [Read more →]

6 Things To Keep In Mind When Trying To “Act” Like A Leader

When starting a new business, recruiting people, approaching prospects or anything else that requires that you show leadership, it is pretty easy to make people lose interest, especially if you sound phony and don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. I thought I could put up a list of the things I personally find important when dealing either with employers or employees, or even customers, and, in the case of blogs, readers and visitors. Make yourself at home and feel free to add to the list!

#1 - Know What You’re Talking About

This may seem obvious to many of you, but it’s amazing how many people are “experts” (”make money online” anyone?)! I wrote about this before, and I’ll say it again. If you have no clue what you’re talking about, don’t talk about it till you make some research and learn more about that particular topic. It’ll save yourself and other people time and energy. On the other hand if you really have a lot of knowledge on that topic, well go ahead and lead the way! [Read more →]

How To “Look” Like A Pro Blogger Even If You’re Not One (Yet!)

Being recognized as an expert in a particular field and positioning yourself as a leader can be done more easily in the blogging world than in the offline world i think (i’d like to put the emphasis on the word “can“, since it “can” be real hard too), but there are things you definitely want to avoid.

How can you “look” like you’re a profesionnal blogger even if you’re not? Actually it’s quite simple, but there are things to keep in mind if you don’t want to look or sound like you’re new to blogging, and want to look pro right from the start. Don’t get me wrong, there’s absolutely nothing wrong in being new at something, everybody has to go through the same stuff, learning curve and all, and at some point every blogger writer/author will face similar problems. Workplace Survival Dialog - Recharge Your Batteries

Workplace Survival DialogDavid from Reflections on Balance asked me if i wanted to join in the fun and participate in his “Workplace Survival” dialog.

I took some time to read Davids’ posts and comments on his blog, and one thing I noticed is that almost everyone had to deal with bad situations at work. Seems like there is no escape, and everyone has to go through similar stuff (also check out “Work-Life Balance” by Anthony Baggett, and also my “Choices Are Made Long Before You Decide” post i wrote not so long ago). You probably had to deal with jerks (for lack of better terms) at work before. So how can one achieve balance between work and personal life, especially when you work with jerks, it can be pretty damn hard to find balance in your personal life. [Read more →]

The Definitive Guide To “Definitive Guides” - Work In Progress

How often do you read “definitive guide to” or “ultimate guide to” [insert topic here] kinda posts? These kind of posts or articles are extremely popular and are a great way to get exposure and recognition. We’ll go into more details in a second, read on. ;)

First, let’s try to find out why people like definitive guides so much.

Definitive or Ultimate guides are extremely popular for simple reasons. People are often not sure or don’t have a lot of knowledge on a certain topic and want more tips and tricks or a step-by-step method to achieve this or that, and a definitive guide provides just that. [Read more →]

Writing An Outstanding Blog Post In 5 (ok, make that 6) Easy Steps

Whether you’re blogging for fun, for fame, for money, to get your thoughts on paper (err, i mean, on computer screens), because you’re a relationship geek, or for no particular reason. You probably want people to read your stuff!

Bloggy Tag - Writing An Outstanding Blog PostDave Olson wrote a really interesting list of ways you can write an outstanding post, the idea started from Liz at Successful-Blog, and she usually gets an incredible response from her readers, so she must be doing something right hehe, so i thought i could join in this “bloggy tag” :)

So how do you write an outstanding blog post?

We all have our own little ways of doing things (and please share your own “ways” with us!), so there’s no bulletproof way to write a good (or oustanding) post. But, me and Shane (zoomstart) agree that “yeah baby yeah” moments are awesome! (*Shane, i can’t believe the most relevant way i came up with to link to your post, was to use “yeah baby yeah” haha) [Read more →]

Pillar Content vs Link Trains

With the quantity of link trains and memes and tag games that many bloggers started lately, it got me wondering if blogs were starting to get a little deprived of quality pillar content and articles. I’m sure “guilty” of participating in some memes and link trains, though i haven’t really jumped in the technorati train and the mybloglog train (but thanx anyway to the people who linked to me, cause my blog was included in both trains not too long after they started), because i don’t feel those are really worth. I prefer memes that helps others achieve their goals and are beneficial to everyone, like group writing projects, without “cheating the system“. Sure you get a couple of links back, and you can get on the top 100 most favorited blogs on technorati if you jump in early. But how useful is it?

Let’s explore the “link trains” phenomenon (if we can call this like that), and please share your experiences and thoughts! [Read more →]
