They Really Don’t Want Me To Buy It I Guess

Hey, seems you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

There’s been a lot of talk about the new Radiohead album, “In Rainbows” on the net lately. The band decided it was time for a change, and decided to put the new album online, and let people pay whatever amount they want and download it or order discbox (40EUR). Awesome!

Stop Abusing My Blog - Make Me Want To Trust You

Stop The AbuseToday is the “Blogging Against Abuse” day. The idea is to post something related to “abuse“, any type of abuse. This may sound a little vague, but on the other hand, that means whatever the type of blog you run, no matter what niche, you can participate and still stay on topic. :)

The “Stop The Abuse” idea came from the cool folks at BlogCatalog, and of course I had to join in, especially cause I think it’s a great idea, but I also have some things I want to share.

You meet a lot of nice people online, especially when you run a blog, but unfortunately you also meet the not-so-cool-so-make-sure-you-dont-trust type. [Read more →]

A Huge Thanks To…

A huge thanks (and congrats) to Paige Dillard from freewebs with IP: 98.195.253.141 for breaking the 17K spam barrier on this blog. Hope you get a lot of business from spamming our blogs. At least you help Akismet improve.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Corporate Meeting - Sounds Like Digg Traffic

For those of you who haven’t seen this video yet, here it is. ;)

Those folks made a video of a fake corporate meeting, but with a “blogging turned bad” twist (can you spot the trolls?)

Lookout for spam around the end, CAPTCHA is pretty effective I guess.

“when things turn bad in a comment section” - Video not suitable for everyone.

I’ve seen worse comments than the ones in the video on some posts on Digg. ;)

This Doesn’t Make Any Sense At All - BuyBlogComments.com

I just read a post from Liz at Successful-Blog about a new service, called BuyBlogComments.com. At first I thought it was a joke, but unfortunately, this site is real…

Darren from Problogger also wrote a post about that. And judging from the response his post received, I guess many people are not so happy about that new service. I really do wonder how people can come up with such ideas… black-hat, spam, fake comments… what a business model!

*Please Note: I will not link to BuyBlogComments. If you want to visit this site please type the address in your browser. I’m sorry but I just won’t give that guy any Google juice. Thanks for your understanding.

So Who’s Behind This

The guy behind this brilliant (sarcasm here) new company called BuyBlogComments is Jon Warass (jonwaraas.com), he also runs BuzzBums (buzzbums.com) a community site. I had a BuzzBums badge in my sidebar, but needless to say that the first thing I did after reading those 2 posts by Liz and Darren, is I took that badge off my blog. Keep reading you’ll see why. Why I Feel Like Breaking Up With Alexa

No, not the girl, the website! You know that site that so many people seem to rely on? Yes that Alexa!

When you join services like Pay Per Post, ReviewMe or Sponsored Review, or even Text Link Ads, those companies will set a price for a review, which you can or cannot adjust manually depending on the service. Most “paid-to-blog” services will take into account 3 or 4 things when calculating the “suggested” price:

  • Alexa Rank
  • Technorati Rank
  • Page Rank
  • RSS Subscribers
  • I’m really fine with 3 of those, the only one I have a problem with is Alexa. And it’s for one simple reason: Not every visitor has the alexa toolbar installed. [Read more →]

Think Twice Before You Launch A New Service - MyBlogLog

I really like Mybloglog! I’ve been a member since February this year, and so far my experience with the service has been nothing but positive and interesting. They added many great features, but recently they launched a new one, the community messaging system. Not a good move at all! I wonder how people can come up with ideas like this… Honestly, the last thing I need is more e-mails, I receive enough already, and I definitely don’t need that. Please read, and share your thoughts on this, I would really like to have your feedback.

    So What’s This New Feature?

At first it may sound like a great tool, you can message your community members to tell them how much you appreciate their support, and let them know about your new posts, or stuff like that. But unfortunately it opens the door to spammers. On the day they launched the new service, I received around 110 message from the new “community messaging” thing at MBL. [Read more →]

Google - Please Get Your Act Together

You probably know how much i like Google, but, after reading and reading, Google is starting to get a little on my nerves and is moving towards the top of my “WTF” list. I’ve read many many blog posts about this and felt i could share it with you guyz and galz, and also ask you what you think of all this. Is Google right or wrong?

Let me explain the situation a little more.

You probably know about google adsense (most webmasters, bloggers and surfers/visitors do), Adsense displays contextual ads on websites, and the site/blog owner earns money every time someone clicks on an “ads by Gooooogle” ad. Which is a great way to earn some extra cash from your blog or website.

The problem Google is facing now, is that a lot of site owners, bloggers and companies (some companies are fairly large and have some “authority”) are selling text link ads (which is another great way to monetize a website by the way), and Google doesn’t like that, at all! I suppose Google doesn’t like this because they don’t get any money from text links sold by other companies. And probably because this messes up their PageRank system, since it’s based on relevancy and not on “purchased traffic or links”.

    So What Now?

    Still Waiting For That Paycheck?

    Here’s a little story ;)

I’ve worked for a telecom company for something like 5 years, and was getting paid on time, every time (ok, sure it was a “paycheck every 2 weeks” kinda job, but still). Then I started working online, and to this day, i’ve recieved all my money on time! Be it from sponsors, advertisers, affiliate programs and others, always on time.

Then, not so long ago, I accepted a contract for a market research firm from Montreal (I won’t name them here, since it wouldn’t be relevant to the purpose of this post, and their website is in French). So i started working there, calling customers, analyzing stuff, filling out reports and all. All this was real fine with me! But…it was supposed to be a 4 weeks contract, and i was supposed to get paid a certain amount, due on certain dates. When the first payday arrived, i checked my online bank statement and.. oh oh… no money?

Micro-Blogging - How Useful Is It?

You probably have heard about Twitter or Tumblr (and there’s probably a dozen other micro-blogging sites out there). I’m wondering, how useful are these? Why would someone spend time writing on twitter instead of writing on his/her own blog? In the end, don’t we want this traffic to visit our own blog instead of visiting our twitter or tumblr page?

What i’m getting at here is, we want to increase our page rank, build an audience, get more traffic, and have control over our blog (or for some it’s the opposite, hehe). I’m not talking about blogs that are hosted on blogspot or a similar service, i think that’s real fine, though i prefer having my own domain name and hosting. But seriously i don’t get it, what is it that twitter has that makes it so popular? (you can write posts of max 140char! Come on! 140 characters! This very post is already over 140char!)
