Google - Please Get Your Act Together

Hey, seems you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

You probably know how much i like Google, but, after reading and reading, Google is starting to get a little on my nerves and is moving towards the top of my “WTF” list. I’ve read many many blog posts about this and felt i could share it with you guyz and galz, and also ask you what you think of all this. Is Google right or wrong?

Let me explain the situation a little more.

You probably know about google adsense (most webmasters, bloggers and surfers/visitors do), Adsense displays contextual ads on websites, and the site/blog owner earns money every time someone clicks on an “ads by Gooooogle” ad. Which is a great way to earn some extra cash from your blog or website.

The problem Google is facing now, is that a lot of site owners, bloggers and companies (some companies are fairly large and have some “authority”) are selling text link ads (which is another great way to monetize a website by the way), and Google doesn’t like that, at all! I suppose Google doesn’t like this because they don’t get any money from text links sold by other companies. And probably because this messes up their PageRank system, since it’s based on relevancy and not on “purchased traffic or links”.

So What Now?

Should You Avoid Blogging About Blogging?

Many of the readers and visitors of smartwealthyrich already own a blog (or two, or more!), and most bloggers will write about blogging even if blogging is not the main topic of their blog. Why is that?

Ok, i do write about blogging on here from time to time, since i believe it’s one of the many ways you can earn money online (and hey the title of my blog is SmartWealthyRich, so i guess blogging falls in one of the 3 categories) :)

But everyone seems to be talking about that lately (or maybe since it all started? Back when the earth was created. ya!).

Rewarding Bloggers - DoFollow

Some of you might already know, if you are using wordpress, that the default setting in wordpress adds a “rel=nofollow” for each and every link that is posted in the comments section of a post. For instance, if you were to reply to this very post, you wouldn’t get a link back (entering your name and url in the reply form) and the search engines would not consider the url you entered in the comment form or in the reply text.

Until now!

I decided to remove the nofollow attribute to reward the people that reply and comment to posts! Isn’t that nice?

So as of now, every time you reply to a post or participate in a discussion, you will get a link back! For as long as you enter your name, your e-mail and the url of your site, you will get a link back to your site! A linkback just for participating and adding to the discussions! :)

How do you remove the nofollow attributes?

Are You Making It Hard For Your Readers?

This post is a follow-up on another post i wrote titled: Make Your Site Appealing, But Don’t Over-Emphasize On The Flashy Stuff!

When you visit a blog (or any other website, not necessarily blogs), what is the first thing you look at? What is the first thing that gets your attention? If you can’t find the answer, check out other blogs and try to take note of what gets your attention first and then come back to your own blog and try to find the similarities.

Ok, it’s probably the header, a nice RSS button, or a banner or something…

The first thing that gets our attention is usually an image, or some kind of graphics. Now, with that said, do you think that it can take the readers’ focus away from your content (the stuff you spend so much time writing)? You want ‘em to read your posts, don’t you? You sure want them to find your site good looking. But that is not all! You want them to READ!

    One More Thing About Adwords

Check out my other post about marketing expenses and Google Adwords. I forgot (well not really) to add something in there. It’s a simple advice but it’s often overlooked! Here it goes!

When you start a new campaign in Adwords, you have to write a title, 2 descriptive lines of text and then the display url. Here’s what it looks like:

    Product Name - Title
    1st line of text, description
    2nd line of text, description
    www.displayurl.com

Ok let’s talk about the 2 description lines. You probably have seen a lot of ads in the sponsored links column in google that reads something like: “You want that stuff? We have it!”… well i’m guessing the people putting those ads are paying way too much for their keywords, or simply don’t care for targeted traffic…

One sure way to increase your click through rate (CTR) is to always write the benefits on the 1st description line and the features on the second one. Benefits and then features! Here’s an example:

    The Power Of Deep Linking

Most visitors that comes to you site or blog probably won’t check out your archives.. ok some do, and it’s great, but most people will look at the first page and scan through it to find something that interests them! And if they don’t find, they’ll leave!

But you probably want to have people look at some older posts! Your older posts are certainly interesting and can be useful to people! So when you write a new post, why not think of your older ones? If you can, simply link to it in your new post, find an older post that is relevant to the one you’re writing now, and link to it with relevant anchor text!

For example, if i was to write a post about blog earnings and revenues, i would definatly link to an older post of mine called “making money with your blog?“. (relevant post and relevant anchor text) And you can also setup a “top posts” page, which makes it easier for your visitors and readers to find the most popular and most commented posts on your blog!

Remember, a lot of people are reading your site using feed/news readers, so you might want to point them to older posts (relevant posts that is!)

By the way search engines loves deep linking!

That’s it for now! Take care! And feel free to comment and reply! Make this interactive and fun! Comments are always appreciated and read! :)

    How Can You Keep Up…

    rss news post button

There is so many great blogs out there! How can you manage to read all the ones you find interesting? If you have your own blog or website, you probably spend a considerable amount of time writing, tweaking, and finding out new ideas and topics for your own blog! So how much time is there left to go and read other blogs?

Blogs are often visited, read, and commented by other bloggers! But what if you don’t have a blog, but find a lot of them interesting and worth checking out again or reading more often?

Well, here’s a little something! Subscribe to their RSS Feed using a rss feed reader (like netvibes)! You will have all their new posts on the same page, and you can have an unlimited amount of blogs on there (well as far as i know.. but i guess you can add a lot of blogs to your list before something goes wrong! hehe), you can read posts on there, and visit the actual blog if you’d like! It’s easy, fast and free!

I wrote a post about time management recently and i guess this post would fit in the same category! By subscribing to a RSS Feed, you can save yourself a lot of time! If you’re simply stopping by, reading, surfing, or you’re an experienced blogger!

If you would like to grab my rss feed, i’m running it through feedburner (clicking this link will open my rss feed in a new window), you can add this feed to your feed/news reader, or use feedburner “feed by e-mail” type of service and recieve updates in your e-mail! (no spam of course)

I’m writing this post because i recieved a couple of e-mails from loyal readers (not bloggers) who were wondering if they could subscribe to my mailing-list, and since i don’t have one, i thought this would be helpful! So they can stay up to date with my postings! :)

    Take care!

Blog Growth - Update - And Constructive Comments Needed Please!

    technorati_screenshot

It’s kind of a good feeling! I just wanted to share it! :)
Also getting more and more RSS readers. which is awesome! (to subscribed to the rss feed, check out feedburner, and recieve updates in your e-mail). But the best part is i learned a whole bunch of things running my blog! From my readers and visitors, and from other bloggers, thanx a lot to all of you! I appreciate your input very much, and look foward to more and more discussions and sharing!

By the way if you have any subject ideas, things you would like to see on smartwealthyrich.com, topics, subjects, ideas, please let me know!

By the way, one little note, even though my site is getting good results so far and i’m enjoying it at lot…i’m trying to find out why my site looks like crap in Internet Explorer 7! It looks real good in Safari (mac), Firefox, Opera.. but not in IE7.. this browser has a tendency to make things look bad (margins, padding)… i know that the right-hand sidebar/menu is falling down to the bottom of the page. I’m running a modded version of K2, i customized and tweaked the design and layout… but still getting that sidebar problem.. so if any of you could help that would be really really appreciated, it seems to be a CSS problem, but i don’t want to use any IE hacks, so if anyone has an idea of what can cause that sidebar problem, please let me know! (i can also send you my css file and we can chat on skype!)

Have You Ever Used That Kind Of Service Before?

As i was doing some research on google about SEO and online marketing, i came across many sites that offers their services to help market your products, using for exemple seo techniques, and ad placement services.. I found quite a bunch of those sites. In one of my last post i talked about market saturation and the likes, and believe there is so much sites out there offering seo, online marketing and advertising services that it can be quite confusing! What should you do, who should you hire if you’re looking for someone to take care of those things for you? (any input here would be really appreciated!)

To some of us search engine optimization and search engine marketing are… well kinda scary! And for good reasons! There is an opinion for every company out there! And it can be difficult to find a good one! One you can trust and that won’t empty your bank account!

What to consider when hiring a seo company then?

First start by doing some research (if you have no idea what SEO means, here’s the link to wikipedia). Try to find at least 8 to 16 seo firms that meets your requirements, then send them all an e-mail, and ask questions, and references! They should be able to give you at least 3-4 reference, and ask them to give you a short list of their recent clients, and check out those sites also! Then, hopefully all of the seo companies you sent an e-mail to will have replied to you withing a couple of days, so you can then judge by their answers which seo company you should to keep on your list and which ones you should not deal with. Remember to ask them “what results are to be expected if you hire them”, that is really important! Also make sure that in their contract they don’t ask for a link to their site from yours! Really important!

Also make sure they offer some other services, like return on investment calculator and tracker, you want them to provide you with all the information needed (analysis) to keep track of how well your site is doing, and how efficient their work is! And ask more questions on SEO blogs, forums and websites, you will get other opinions by doing so, which will help you decide on what company would be the best for the tasks!

It’s would be really interesting to know if other people have used SEO services before, from what company, and how were the results! Feel free to share your experiences! :)
