How To Deal With People

Anthony over at antbag.com has an interesting post about impossible people, that made me think a lot (that’s always a good thing).

It happens from time to time you meet someone who it seems you just can’t deal with! It surely happened to you before… well it happened to me just today, i was working (on a contract for a market research firm here in Montreal), and that guy just came up to me and oh my god… at some point in the conversation, i just had to leave! I tried my best to focus and stay kinda calm and tried to find good stuff in the conversation, but i had to leave… and i did! (thanx to that other guy who asked me a question, i saved me!)

It hasn’t happened to me a lot, but when it hits you kinda remember it! Impossible people… i guess we all know at least one or two person that are like that! And it’s not fun!

There are, of course, ways to deal with those people, but it can be hard! Sometimes even Dale Carnegie won’t help! That’s something!

Well that was my share of the day! Not that i like to rant, but Anthonys’ post made me think about that situation that happened today, now it’s “gotta think of ways to avoid this“, and Anthony gives nice tips on the subject! :)

Bes, over at TheReasoner also has a great post about how to deal with people and avoid telling them they’re wrong (at all costs), check it out!

Take Care!

  1. Jonathon,
Thanks for the mention. Dealing with someone who is “impossible” has been a recent experience of mine………which led to the post. It makes you more appreciative of the “rational” people you deal with!

  2. Another good post Jon. Sure there are people I cant deal with and of course there are others who cant deal with me. I hate getting into arguements, that doesnt mean i dont get into any, I do.

Over the years I have practiced what I learnt from someone, so before getting into an arguement I quickly ask myself, “do I want to be right or do I want to be happy” and the answer is always the latter. At that point I dont find it too difficult to say “alright mate, I agree that both of us disagree” and walk away. Bottom line I didnt win the arguement but I retained my happiness and serentiy.

Try it out if you are in an arguement situation, it works.

    Cheers mate.

  3. Great post lol. I’ve only come across a select few people in my lifetime that I can’t stand to be around and have been fortunate that I don’t work with em or anything like that.

What I have found a lot here lately is difference that I have with some of my close friends. A few have very strong, stupid opinions about silly things… things that they have been brainwashed into thinking are true by past encounters.

Sometimes I try to slip in a bit of truth for them to chew on, but most of the time I just agree with whatever they say and move on. There is no point in arguing about something so petty as, well, whatever the topic is. No matter how hard you try, you will never changed their warped opinions so eh, why bother :)

  4. Impossible people make their own truth. It has no basis in reality, but to them it’s unshakeable.

If you can’t walk away, have some fun with them! Make your own truth. And make it even more ridiculous than theirs … I don’t know, it works for me :)

  5. Anthony: You are more than welcome! Great post! :)

Robin: Excellent advice there! I definatly prefer to be happy than right! I’ll try that out for sure! Unless that kind a situation doesn’t happen again, which i wouldn’t mind! hehe

Shawn: You’re absolutely right, you cannot change someones’ opinions or views, just gotta let them be, anyway it would probably take more energy to argue than to just move on.

Shane: Yeah! to have some fun with them is always interesting, haha, but sometimes i just can’t stand it, and have to leave, which is still kinda funny!
