I’ll Keep This One For A While I Think

New Design - Smart Wealthy Rich

Since my first post on this blog, a lot of things have changed, especially when talking design, I’ve had 4 or 5 designs, but none of them I found were cool enough. So once again, back to the drawing board.

I have a feeling I will stick to that new design for a while :)
If you’re reading through RSS, please come have a look!

My last 2 designs were built on the Cutline theme (Chris Pearson), and the ones before that were based on the K2 theme.

I still think Cutline is one of the nicest themes, it’s perfect if you want to customize your design.. but I needed some change, and it so happened Anthony Baggett released a freakin nice wordpress theme recently called “Networker“, which I also used on my other blog, FreelanceFolder.

Networker is a content-sidebar-sidebar layout, but as you can see this new design only has 1 sidebar. What happened is, I realized a second sidebar wasn’t necessary, as simple as that. I find it much cleaner now, although I know I’ll probably want that second sidebar back one day, but for now it’s fine, can always put that second sidebar back up.

So, yep, new design is up! :)

Also, if you haven’t noticed, I now have a “resources” tab in the top menu. There is nothing on this page, but, of course, I want to put something on there. On this page I want to list your posts! I’m looking for tutorials, on different topics, such as blogging, design (wordpress, typepad, blogger), social networking (how to install widgets and stuff), so send me your best posts (ya know, the ones that got a lot of traffic, comments, the ones you wrote with authority, and you know they’ll be useful to others), and I’ll put them up on the resources page. I think this will be useful to new (and advanced) bloggers. ;)

*Thanx a bunch Anthony for releasing such an awesome wordpress theme, and for all your help!

  1. Very nice! But then, I liked the last one too…

  2. NICE! I too am thinking of a new design for my blog once more…..and its funny when I viewed your blog this morning it was still the same template

  3. Zen, thanx! :)
I liked the previous design too, but got tired of it pretty fast

Thanx Ian! Yep this morning it was still the other design, I switched only a couple of hours ago :)

  4. You’re never gonna quit changing the design are ya? haha

Looks good. The header looks very clean and professional. I like it.

I almost put a dual sidebar on my new theme, but I share your thinking on this … one day, but not today.

  5. Hey Shane, yeah I think I’ll stick to this design for a while, I’m pretty happy with it, got tired of the last one really quick.

2 sidebars - yep, one day, but today I’m feeling like 1 sidebar is fine (with Anthony’s Networker theme it’ll be quite easy to add that second sidebar so it’s alll good )

    ;)

  6. Love the new design, Jonathan! I’m with the others, though, too - I also liked the last one! :)

  7. Hey Aaron, thanx! :)
I liked the other one too, but in the long run I have a feeling this one is better “prepared”, I put a lot more thoughts into this one than the previous one (the old design was put together in less than 3 hours) :)

  8. Love the reflected title…looks sweet. How about a how to create a reflected logo post Jon.

  9. Hey Adam, humm, good idea, although you can find many blogs (about design and photoshop) that have this kind of tutorial ;) (maybe a design, theme customization post would be cool though)

  10. Hi Jon, I think we’re both need to keep our current theme for a while. I’ve been changing time two times this month alone.

I think people getting fed up with the constant “improvement”… hahaa.. I like this one better though.

  11. Hi Jon

The new theme is very clean, maybe a little too clean.
My first impression was the Sunny-side-up-egg logo with the blog’s title in the “yolk”.

No offence, but I still prefer the last theme and design, I really miss the “stick It” note in your last design. That was something rather special.

  12. Hey Jon,

Thanks for giving Networker another go! Freelance Folder AND Smart Wealthy Rich…….I’m starting to feel like a real big shot!

  13. Hey Calvin, thanx a lot bro! :) Yeah I think we need to stick to a design now hehe. I got so tired of the last one, so I’ll stick with this one, and just tweak things instead :)

Betshopboy, thanx for your comments, good point about the “yolk” hehe, at least it’s sunny! ;)
Reason I removed the “sticky note” thing is because even being something that you don’t see on a lot of blogs, people never clicked on there, and some people told me the text there was displaying weird, so I got rid of it.

Anthony, I told you buddy, Networker is an awesome theme, you really did an awesome job with this one (with 1800-1900 downloads you can feel like a big shot bro!) ;)

  14. I like the single sidebar. Much less cluttered than many of the “3-column” blog sites I’ve seen.

I like the crisp, clean look of the new header graphic, but the seal seems just a tad large and slightly overpowering…

  15. I like the new one..

    its artistic….cool bro…

but ur “Conversational Blogging and Entrepreneurship” colour font is not very clear…

    its hardly to see..

  16. I was a HUGE fan of the green arrow thing. Not sure I like the color of the new.. whatever that is.. ;) I’m not sure what color that is but I believe one of my uncles had a shirt that shade once..

The rest of the design is fine but the new logo looks like something a project runway designer would create - and then get kicked off the show for!

Sorry to be brutally honest but I can’t lie to ya.. ;) I’m sold on the green arrow.. perhaps I can start the bring back the green arrow campaign.. ;)

  17. Holly $·#~€@/%!!!! This is a very nice design Jon! Very good, as always! Keep it up my friend!

  18. […] As you can see I changed the design (again) on SmartWealthyRich. Yesterday I put a new design up, but, ya know, you have to listen to your people, so I decided to make some changes […]

  19. Rob, Baloot, Snoskred, I made some changes, lemme know what you think (and thanx for your honesty and comments) ;)

George, thanx bro, check out the “new” design, hope you like it as much :)

  20. Now that’s better ;) I didn’t know what the white pinking shears rosette for winning at a fair thing was for.. ;) and I love that font you’ve used.

I still miss my *green* arrow friend, but at least the arrow part of the friend is back ;) Yay!

  21. Hi! I already noticed the new design very nice. it has like a “Corporate Style” very good!

  22. Hey Snoskred, hehe I’m happy you like the new looks, yep the arrow is still there! The “green” of the old arrow made it look so damn ugly (wrong color for the new color scheme), so I thought I’d fade it so it blends in the header image :)

    George, Thanx bro!

  23. Fabulous design, Jon! I like this one the best by far!

  24. Definitely clean. I like it better.

I have been working on a new design, and have a three column, but you have me rethinking now.

I think I could probably trim down to one, although on a single page without comments it may scroll way down.

Did you have any problems with IE6 and 7? Did you need separate style sheets?

  25. Nate, thanx a bunch buddy, I appreciate it a lot! ;)

Happy Rock, you could always go with a 2 sidebars layout, and then try removing one (duplicate the theme folder, and rename it), keep the 2 sidebar layout on the server, and if you see the 1 sidebar layout isn’t woking out, re-enable the 2-sidebars layout :)
Yep, I have an IE6 stylesheet, no probs with IE7 though (Anthony Baggett helped me quite a bit with the ie6 stylesheet) ;)

  26. Before I saw this post I was thinking ‘ what a striking design’. Very clean, clear and stylish.

  27. Hi Sueblimely, hey thanx a bunch :)

  28. great new look john. Did you make it yourself ?

  29. Hi Marc, yes, well I used the Networker theme Anthony Baggett built and customized it ;)

  30. Looks like you didn’t keep it too long!

    Looks nice now though :-)
