I’m Addicted!!!

I can easily spend hours/days learning about this “new thing” i didn’t know about, put what i’ve learned into practice, and see what kind of results it brings. Then I try to find something new to learn or find out more about things i already have some knowledge of. I’m addicted to learning! hehe, well i guess that’s a good thing. For as long as you apply what you’ve learned, i think wanting to learn more, and be driven and passionate about new things is what helps me move foward.
The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands or territories, but in seeing it with new eyes. - Marcel Proust
I feel when i learn something new, it’s like i got one more piece of the puzzle (and this puzzle is sometimes a huge one), but it’s entertaining, fun and it helps me get better.
I’d like to invite you (my loyal readers and casual visitors. If it’s your first time here, welcome, and make yourself at home!) to share what you’ve learned recently. About anything, be it blogging, marketing, advertising, writting, wordpress, self-improvement, life, news, technology, personal stories, lessons you’ve learned (sometimes from mistakes)… anything goes really!
So? What is it that you have learned in the last couple of days/weeks/months that helped you move foward and get closer to your goals?

I’ve been blogging since the start of this year and have learnt a hell of a lot about CSS, PHP and SEO (sorry for all the acronyms).
Learning get definitely be addictive but it’s a fine line between learning and doing. At some point I have to say ‘Ok I need to do this stuff and see if it works’ before learning any more.
Too much learning can be an intellectual’s procrastination :-)
Dan
Hey Daniel! Same here man, i’ve learned so many new things, it’s scary! Gotta put what you learn into practice, and not be an “information junky” ;)
This quote by Marcel Proust is one of my favourite. I found blogging not long ago and learn much by reading other blogs. Thank you.
Managing my own blog has taught me how to stay persistant and working hard for a goal (getting traffic).
Hi Christian, thanx a lot for stopping by and replying. Yeah i really thought this quote was appropriate for this post :)
Make yourself at home! If you have a website or blog, feel free to add it in the form when you leave a comment! Take care!
I love learning about what Daniel is talking about. CSS, XHTML, etc. is awesome! I think being a freelance web developer would be an awesome job.
Hey Gregg, i agree with you, i learned soo much managing my blog and redesigning it!
Anthony, that would be awesome, i’m not sure i have the technical knowledge required to be a freelance web developer, but i’m always learning! running my blog i definitely learned a load of things about CSS, PHP, wordpress architecture, SEO ;)
I love learing new stuff. It used to be more informational learning.
But generally, these days I have to strap on the parachute and jump if I want learn about … say, gravity (figuratively speaking). Basically, I like learning by doing it.
Same here Shane, and by taking action, you can definitely have more “yeah baby yeah” moments! lol
I’d think sometimes it becomes more important to ‘unlearn’ something old than to ‘learn’ something new.
We pick various habits, traits and ways of doing things which are not necessarily the best always.
For example, Jon, your post on travelling from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’:
I was thinking about it quite a bit, and soon I found I’m heavily accustomed to distractions (point ‘C’) when I’m working on something. It’s easy for me to lose all focus and go after point ‘C’, which, of course has a point ‘D’…..
So now, I’m trying to set up a mental alert to help me identify when I’m wandering away from my goals, and to STOP and steer back into my planned track to reach point ‘B’.
I’m unlearning my old ways.
So here, isn’t ‘unlearning’ really ‘learning’, even when it’s not something about a brand new subject?
(If you mean down-to-earth, hard-core learning, I’m just learning how the millionaires really live during my research for my ‘glamor’ blog www.celebritybrands.net! … haha.)
I am the kind of person who gets addicted to anything that makes me feel good and blogging is definitely is my latest addiction.
I have been blogging since about the middle of February this year, I am far from becoming a hero from zero, but I have learnt so much, met some great folks, made good friends like you. A lot of techy stuff still sounds like Chinese to me and you know that….lol.
Referring to your last post I cant list any cons here and thats cool.
Take care and Cheers mate.
RK, unlearning can be insanely hard, we’re creatures of habit, and once we “know” something it’s so hard to change it. If your old ways are fine, and it works, well it’s cool, but like you said, if your old ways means going to point C, then D, then E, instead from A to B, unlearning (as hard as it can be) is what needs to be done. But it’s harsh. Gotta focus on the goals, i haave this little notepad sitting on my desk that reminds me everyday of what i have to do to get to point B ;)
Robin, blogging is indeed addictive ;) well how could it be not addictive, when you have so many nice people participating in the discussions? ;)
I love learning too!
I can read and learn on hours. I can read about investing, marketing and financial stuffs like forever sometimes.
A word of caution though (in fact 2 sentences),
1. Learn by all means, but remember to apply them. Knowledge without application is not power.
2. There is simply too much to learn out there. Learn to learn only the necessary bits and move on to apply them. Have to be very careful about overloading yourself.
P.S Thanks so much for notifying me about the contact form problem. I have left a note at the contact form section as a reminder.
Cheers,
Jag
Hey Jag, no prob, if you need help with that contact form, let me know (i’m sure a contact form plug-in or something could do the trick)
You’re right, gotta apply what we learn, or else learning means nothing, you can learn and learn and learn, but if you don’t put it into practice, it’s no use learning. I love to learn, because i want to have more knowledge and be able to do stuff i wasn’t able to before.
Thanx for replying buddy, it’s always a pleasure to have you ’round here ;)
Hi,
I agree totally.
If I read something in a design or web mag and don’t know what it is I become obsessed until I find out more. Being a designer for print, my web design knowledge is pretty poor, so I am currently learning HTML and CSS basics and get a real buzz out of it, though its early days yet. Amazon, I am addicted to amazon, my bookshelf is overflowing with books I wanted to find out about. Having only recently started blogging some of my latest book addictions are about blog marketing oh and a few on CSS.
Hello Tara! Thanx for replying! Make yourself at home! :)
Amazon! to me it’s like a “university”. I’ve never read any books on php or css (there’s plenty of free infos on the web) but i definitely wanna learn more about php and wordpress. Just gotta jump in, try to mod a wordpress theme, it’s already a good starting point :)
