Making Money With Your Blog?

So i’ll try to give you some tips and tricks on how to monetize your blog, and how you can earn money from blogging. (That is from my experiences! There is a lot more ways to increase your blogging revenues! So feel free to share what you know!) :)
Here’s my list:
Google Adsense : though some may say it’s a little overused, it’s still a good way to have targeted ads on your site.
PayPerPost : That is a really cool way to earn money , you get paid for reviewing and posting about someone else’s post. (*edit: There is also Reviewme that looks like payperpost, just added reviewme to the list, i’ll check them out and see how it goes, thanx for letting me know unfathomedpsyche)
Bidvertiser : This is much like Adsense, simply another way of making money, don’t put all your eggs in the same basket! (try textlinkads also )
Affiliate Programs: That is certainly a good way to earn a revenue from your site, you find a good affiliate program and them promote it through your site. (try Clickbank or Amazon)
Sell advertisement spots : If your blog has a good PR and is somewhat popular, you have a lot of readers, and you actively promote your blog, well you could sell “Ad Spots”! For example: 50$ per month for a text link or a banner that links to another blog.
Donate Now Button: You could also ask people to donate money, though i don’t think this would be really efficient, but you may get a couple of bucks, and it’s worth trying.
Sell your blog : That is another option, you could build your blog, promote it, and then simply sell it… unless you are emotionally attached to your blog, or you’re making more money by running then you would make if you were to sell it.
Of course you can probably find “blog jobs” that are in your field of expertise, and get hired by someone to write posts on their blog, and earn money for doing so!
One thing tho.. You gotta have traffic, visitors, readers, so sure it’s a good thing to monetize your blog, but you won’t make any money if you have no visitors, so promote your blog, join social networks, link exchanges, directories, SEO, and others… cause if you want to make money, say from people clicking on your adsense ads, you need to have people clicking on them! :D
I’d like to hear what other bloggers have to say about this. What are you using to make money from your blog, or your blogging business?

And the most important point of all, if you want to make money with your blog, write content that people will look for in search engines. I read somewhere that a visitor that comes from google looking for something in particular has 14X more chances of clicking on an add then a normal readers.
Cheers,
Kiltak [GAS]
Thanx for replying! It’s really apreciated!
I totally agree, one thing i’m wondering tho is sshould we write stuff to attract more actual bloggers to our blogs (resulting in potential link exchanges and all) or should we write to attract people that just want to read and got our site from google or another search engine. A lot of blogs aare talking directly to bloggers, while others are writing about a variety of topic. Well i guess in a couple years from now, everyone will have his or her own blog so! :)
Good advise!
I haven’t had much luck with PayPerPost though, maybe something to do with me using Blogger? Or since I’m such a “noob” I just haven’t figured it all out lol.

Hi Sean! Thanx for stoping by!
Well payperpost is really a nice service, i see you have put those payperpost buttons on your site, that’s good! Just gotta make sure your blog is old enough (i think it’s 90 days old or something).
I know many advertisers on payperpost restrict reviews from sites that are from blogger, blogspot and others.
Good way to overcome that would be to get a domain name and hosting! (kinda cheap on a virtual hosting plan).
Of course you can simply look at the list of offers and pick one you wanna review, but some ask for a minimum Page Rank or Alexa rank!
Well traffic matters in the end! :)
Talking about a specific subject might be very popular with bloggers and attract lots of traffic and linkbacks for now, but it you won’t get any traffic from google for this. No one will be searching for “top 10 ways to be a better blogger”. To make money on a site people need to write “how to” type of content.
People need to write with both search engines and people in mind. With no good content, people will not link back to you, and with no linkback, google won’t be giving you any love.
:)
Great tips! but I love my blog too much to sell it,lol…..I never jumped on the adsense wagon, how much can you really make?
Good tips Kiltak! :)
Hi razz (don’t sell your blog!)
Writing “how to”s is a good way to attract visitors and readers, just gotta appeal to both the bloggers and the google searchers (that have no idea what blogging is).
But i did search for “be a better blogger” (without the “top 10 ways” part) before, and i found what i wanted on google. You’re right, gotta keep the SE and the readers in mind (probably why articles directories are really popular and with good PR)
As for adsense, well you can surely make money with that, but it probably won’t pay my car every month (but a hundred bucks every month is welcome, just don’t rely only on adsense though), there is so many different opinions about adsense (and the likes), just gotta try, read what others have to say, and change your adsense ads format, move them around, try different things!
Adsense can pay your morgage easily (and your car).. you only have to write good stuff and wait 6 month / 1 year.
Jonathan: You could make a lot more money from adsense then you do right now. The position where you implement your ads arent optimized..
Let’s take this article for instance. The way it written now is perfectly fine. In a month or 2, if you see google traffic starting to get in for this post, replace the picture on the top right of your post with a 300 X 250 ad unit.
Just be sure that you are not displaying more then 3 unit per page..
Cheers!
hey, nice post of blogging for money.
it help me too.
i hav join new affiliates program in many site. but dont hav any bonuses. hehehe.
thanks.
Hey Kiltak, thanx a lot for the advices!
I’m still experimenting with adsense, so far it’s doing good, but could be better (there’s always room for improvement), i’ll try different ad placements. Great idea the 300X250 ad unit! I’ll wait a little and see what posts are getting traffic from search engines and modify that. I’m thinking of removing the sidebar google ads (or maybe just keep one), and place the google search thing a little higher on the page, and also put an horizontal ad like after each post or something.
Hey, by the way that is a really cool discussion! Thanx a lot everyone for participating! :)
Jonathan,
Good info. Been thinking about the monitization of my blog. I started this last one just under a month ago and am starting to get some traffic. No affect from Adsense, but then direct monitization is not my primary goal at this point. My job as a web developer behooves me to develop a stronger online presence for career development, hence my connection to LinkedIn. Kind of wondering your thoughts on leverage points beyond direct monitization for blogs. What’s the pay-off for folks?
Great list, i have tried some of the programs mentioned above, unfortunately most of them only pay through paypal in which my country is not currently allowed to accept payment. Would you happen to know any other sites that pay through cheque or e-gold?. By the way you could add reviewme.com in your list, it is much like payperpost. Cheers =)
Hi Philip and unfathomedpsyche! :) Nice to have you here!
Thanx for your comments!
Monetization of my blog is not my primary goal either, but i hope in the future things will begin to take off (working on it), i’m making some money now, but it could certainly be better (always room for improvement). Well beyond direct monetization, one of my goal is to write (and learn).
I believe blogging is a very good way to share your thoughts and improve your writing skills… for exemple, someone who wants to publish a book/ebook on a specific subject could surely benefit from blogging (ideas from others, comments, critique, it helps improve your “eventual” book, which could also be promoted by affiliates eventually), or getting writing jobs (online or offline), or blog jobs, be hired as a columnist/co-writer on bigger sites, or as a web developer for some company. I believe there is much more to gain in exposure you get from your blog, than the direct monetization of your blog. (my thoughts) :)
unfathomedpsyche, what country do you live in? I know paypal has restrictions on certain countries, maybe a way to get passed that would be to have the money sent to someone else’s paypal account, and that person could send you the money (cahs, check, or other means), honestly it would be better if paypal would be available in your country, or you can try the “send the money to my friend in another country, and he’ll give me my money” kinda thing.. but you gotta really trusst that person! For my part the only persons i would trust on that would be my parents, my best buddy, or my wife if i had a wife (no wait! forget about that last one!) :) I know of EpassPorte (i actually really like their service, and use them from time to time) that you can use to send and recieve money, but still you’d have to find someone to recieve the paypal payments, and then send the money to your epassporte account… a little tricky. But check Epassporte out anyway, it might be just what you need, never know! Good luck!
Added Reviewme.com in the list! Thanx unfathomedpsyche!
I checked them out some time ago, but didn’t have much time to go in depth, so i’ll maybe try them! :)
Thanks for the list, Jonathan. I’ve bookmarked your above article to at itribe.biz/news to share with others interested in the same topic. If you know of other great articles on this topic, send me an email. I’d enjoy reading them for addtion to the collection.
Thank you very much itribe! :)
Making Money From a Blog is the most popular topic in the blogsphere right now…go figure.
Yeah, i’m wondering.. if every blogger is looking to make money from their blog.. who is going to buy stuff or click on ads? Most of us have ads or some sort of advertisement on our blogs… well we are contributing in making “Making Money From a Blog” more and more popular, that is the most popular post on my site! I would definatly like to have another post than this one as the most popular, but well.. it gets picked up by search engines, so i won’t complain hehe :)
[…] about blog earnings and revenues, i would definatly link to an older post of mine called “making money with your blog?“. (relevant post and relevant anchor text) And you can also setup a “top posts” […]
Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for faving me…yeah this Maki thingy is getting out of hand, lol.
Anyway, I believe the main reason why anyone would blog or should blog is because you just wanna express yourself and you do it because you like doing it.
I do not believe blogging in this niche makes a lot of money…but the blogging itself is a way to share your knowledge with others rather than keeping it to yourself, and I guess it’s just a creative outlet, at least for me.
Thanks, and I faved you back.
Hi DarrinW! thanx a lot for replying, welcome to SWR :)
You’re right, i like to share stuff i know, and it’s a win-win thing cause i learn a lot doing that.
