No Risks, No Rewards

What kinda risks are you willing to take, and how well are the results?
Say you’re into marketing, online marketing… there is a good deal of risk there, sure you can use a truck load of tools to help you minimize the risks, and get a more accurate idea of how well your marketing campaigns will perform. But still there is some risk. Same with investing, or with any other kind of business.
When setting up your advertising and marketing machine, you have to take into account the “risk factor”, or else you might end up loosing money and not getting the ressults you would have liked. Reason why there is a ton and a half tools out there to help you with that. Just do a simple search on google and you’ll surely find a bunch of tools!
Is the business you’re in (or working on) has a high or low risk “factor”?
Take blogging for example, i think it is safe to say it’s not a risky business… compared to stocks (i don’t know much about stocks by the way) or even compared to the traditional store thing, where you have way more bills to pay then a $15 hosting bill for your blog! :)
Anyhow, if you take more risks, you can probably expect higher paying results. Hey same goes for a lot of other things in life! You simply have to know your limits, and be comfortable with the choices you make, if you have the slightest doubt, think again! And you also have to stay away from “indecision”. That is really important, follow what you believe is right, and go for it! Focus on it, and most of the time it will work! But be prepared, cause there will be bumps on the road, ups and downs, that is just normal!
On what do you base your decisions? Do you take into account the risks? Or you just go for it, not thinking about the hard parts you may encounter? I believe in making informed and educated choices, and then, but only then focus on that particular thing! You will most likely enjoy it, and get good results!
Have a wealthy week-end!

Great post about taking risks Jon. Richard Parsons, the CEO of Time Warner said, “The ability to deal with not knowing what’s comming next will reward you.”
…he said a lot of other great things. Read the blog. He’s a wise man.
can you PLEASE put the full feed on your main page! PLEASE!!!
Hey Bryan! Nice quote, i like your post!
Yeah i just changed it to the full feed, i’ll see how it goes! :)
Bryan,
“Blogging” is a “job” not a “business”.
It looks like a business when you see ads and product banners etc on blogs (that’s
how a blogger makes some money, through monetization of his/her blog with
affiliate marketing).
While a really good blog may enable a blogger to earn a decent living I don’t see how
a blogger can ever become wealthy just through blogging.
But then again, how many bloggers are really earning nicely ? I bet, no many.
“Low risk, low return”
“No risk, zero return”
That’s the way it is.
Using a blog as a communication tool to build a business is a better choice. That’s
the reason for me to have a blog (and mine is a lousy one in the eyes of professional
bloggers, of course).

Sorry,
My comment is meant for Jonathan and not Bryan.

Hi SChee, i see what you mean, blogging is a good communication tool. And i totally agree with you, low risk, low return, no risk, no return!
For sure not everyone earns a full-time income from blogging, i don’t.. but i believe blogging can be a business all by itself…i don’t see how someone can earn a living blogging if that person doesn’t see it as a business in the first place, just like any other business, even if a blog makes just 100$ per month, it’s still a business to me… one of multiple streams of income, just don’t rely on only this stream.. i don’t see blogging as a job.. but more as part of a whole, it can surely be a business all by itself, but also, like you said, a communication tool, which in both case is worth doing.
Great reply SChee! Nice to have you here! :)
I agree with that, No Risk No Rewards. Although pain may accompany risk, so an extension to that probably sounds like No Pain No Gain.
There is always an element of fear while taking a risk, but not scary enough to keep me from trying. Personally I would rather take the risk and fail than not to have tried at all
I love your smooth and easy flowing writing style Johnathan, I am hooked to your blog.
Cheers.
Hi Robin! Thanx a lot! :)
You’re absolutely right, fear is one of the strongest human emotion/feeling.. fear can lead someone to “not try”, overcoming fear can be real hard, but like you said (i really like the way you put that) “I would rather take the risk and fail than not to have tried at all“! My thoughts exactly! I believe failure is part of success, it doesn’t matter if one fails, what matters is what we learn from that.
