Perception Of Others - You vs The World

How do you see yourself? What about the perception others have of you?
John defined me as the “Reservoir Of Positivity“, and Shane said i’m “The Philisopher“, and this personal dna test says i’m an “Advocating Inventor“. While i’m real fine with those titles, it got me wondering about how the perception of your own self, the way you see yourself affects what others might think of you? Are others seeing you just like you see yourself?
Do you think you are a successful entrepreneur, a positive thinker, a passionate lover? But, you’re broke, always thinking negative thoughts and your lover complains about your lack of.. ok you get the idea! hehe
Attitude is everything (isn’t that some company slogan?). The way you perceive yourself has a direct impact on the way others will see you.
“High and accurate self-perception is related to a higher self-confidence and self-control” (Carole D. Stovall, Ph.D)
So? How do you see yourself? And how other people sees you? If others percieves you as being like this or like that, and you believe it’s not accurate, why is that? Of course, integrity and being authentic helps a lot in making sure others will see you just like you want them to.
“You are only as wise as others perceive you to be” (M. Shawn Cole)
I’m looking foward to reading your replies! ;)

I’ve often thought about this and have concluded that I don’t want to perceive myself as anything. Easier said than done. But to categorise yourself is to limit yourself. I strive to just be. So in any given moment I try to answer from myself rather than who I think I am or should be.
I find it interesting when people say you are someway and I do it to others, but in truth I know myself better than any and wouldn’t be confident enough to stick a label on myself.
Hey Daniel, excellent point you bring. I think you’re right, categorizing yourself can mean limiting yourself also. I think if the way others sees you doesn’t affect you (emotionally or anything), and you can learn from that, and take critique positively, and move foward, it’s a good thing!
On the other hand, if someone sees him/her self as being a certain way, when in fact he/she is completely at the opposite. That’s kinda weird/wrong. But who are we to judge and label people? Though most of us do it anyway.
;)
Hi Jon,
This is a tough one!
My views resonate with Daniel. I don’t feel comfortable labeling myself.
It is always interesting to hear how third parties judge us. Some may be spot on, while some may be way off, but I guess, like Daniel said, we are the ones that only truly know who we are inside.
For myself, I guess I can say that I always believe in myself and am quietly confident about my own abilities.
I subscribe to this motto - ABU –> Always Believe in Yourself.
Cheers,
Jag
Hey Jag! Believing in yourself, i think, can enable people to see you as you see yourself. A good level of confidence can certainly make other people see you exactly the way you want them to see you.
Thanx for replying! :)
That’s a cool little personal dna test. I got “animated visionary”. Both those things seem to be at opposite sides of the spectrum … which pretty much sums things up!
I’m very analytical at times and very creative at other times. Melding those two sides has always been a challenge. Writing on my blog is helping me to exercise that a lot.
Animated Visionary, sounds good i think. It’s cool when you can balance between both. You are a skilled writer, it shows on your blog, guess you manage well the “animated” and the “visionary” :)

According to the personal DNA test, I am a Dynamic Idealist.

I view myself as successful, romantic, passionate about love, caring, kind, intelligent, and very empathetic. Wow. I sound really conceited! Trust me - I’m not!
Hehe, well those “personality tests” you kinda have to take what’s good and leave the rest behind. Dynamic Idealist, well that doesn’t sound too bad :)
