Pownce - Kinda Like Twitter But On Steroids

You probably already know who Kevin Rose is, he’s the founder of Digg, and he’s now working on a new project: Pownce. Scot Smith from Meridian Crest sent me an invite, cause right now Pownce is still in beta, and is “invite only”. Thanx Scot! :)
So now I can invite 6 people. If you’d like to try out this new service, please leave a comment below, and I’ll send you an invite. Then you can let me know what you think of Pownce. (I can only send 6 invites, first come, first served)
So What The Heck Is Pownce?
Pownce looks a lot like Twitter, but on steroids! To be totally honest, I’m not a big fan of Twitter, and don’t really understand why people are crazy about it, but I guess it’s a cool service if you’re into instant messaging and micro-blogging. Thing is… I’m not.
Pownce is quite like Twitter, where you have your own profile, and there’s a “public profile” where messages from your friends are posted. But you can also make your messages available to your friends only. You can send:
And you can annoy all your friends by sending them 25 messages per day. But you can turn off the e-mail notifications on the “settings” page. Thank you Mr.Rose!
The cool thing about Pownce is that you can download a software, install it on your comp (which I had a lot of troubles with!), and it’s linked to your username, so when you wanna post stuff you don’t have to open your browser and log in. You can do it from your computer. Pretty cool! For Twitter there are also 3rd party softwares available for both Mac (Twitterrific) and PC (Twitteroo).
So… Why Pownce And Not Twitter?
Pownce users you can send files up to 10MB (100MB with a pro account), which you cannot do with Twitter. This is probably the main (and only) reason I will give Pownce a shot, well just because of that I find it more interesting than Twitter.
I’m not sure about this, but I’ve heard they will try to get support for all major IMs. That would be awesome! But nothing confirmed yet.
You can also read more about Pownce on Mashable.
Here are some screenshots (click the images to enlarge):

By the way, you can also link your Pownce account to your FaceBook account (which seems buggy)

I don’t think Pownce innovates a lot, and it probably won’t be revolutionary. I feel it won’t change social networking like Digg did, but still it’s worth trying it out.
Pownce Invites
If you want me to send you an invite, please leave a comment below, and I’ll gladly send one your way! :)
Let me know what you think of it after you start using it. I’d like to have feedback from people, what you like (or don’t like) about Pownce, and what you use it for.
Thanx :)

I’ll have one of those invites if you’re still offering. Sounds like if they get support for all the major IM’s it could be something pretty good.
I’ve never seen the big deal with twitter either… I thought I was the only one!
Hi Laura2.1 :)

I have no invites left.
If you guyz (the 6 people that I sent invites to) are not using your own invites (you automatically get 6), check back this post, maybe others would like to receive invites. :)

Hey Jon,
Thanks for the mention. If you need some invites I still have 5 or 10 available.

Thanks Jon.
I was just on twitter, Alex King who just joined said”It’s going to be a lot easier for Twitter to add Pownce’s sending features than for Pownce to duplicate Twitter’s community.”
He has a couple of Tweets about Pownce.
Adam

Pownce is still in beta, thats why its buggy. The desktop client still more! but i believe evrything will just be set right over time
Are you using Pownce still? It’s really confusing, since it’s another social site to add to the list. :) I’m curious whether you’ve found it useful so far with promoting your site?
Tina
Yea.. i use it.. though i havent found time to be online from so long .. its good .. cuz i can publically share my links.. people can visit u even if they visit ur public profile by chance..
its jus a social networking site.. but da main player is u urself.. if u and ur content is good.. u’ll find da service is tasty for u .. not, otherwise.
Can you send me an invite ? O would very much appreciate.
