Smart Posts Worth Reading #6

This edition of the “Smart Posts Worth Reading” will feature more smart posts than usual, 9 instead of 5. You know when you find so many that you can’t really choose, then why not showcase more? :)

10 Sales and Marketing Tips I learned from Strippers: This post is absolutely brilliant! Talk about a magnetic and catchy headline! A lot of people are writing things like “tips I learned from this and that”, but what is it that you learned from strippers? Read this post, it’s well worth it! And controversial too!

The Ultimate Sneaky Tip to Increase Visitors and Comments: Armen wrote an interesting post on how to increase comments on your blog. How do you usually visit the blogs you read? By typing the address in your browser, clicking through in your feed reader? Why not visit those blogs by clicking on the links in your own comment section? Most bloggers check their stats regularly, when you see hits coming from another blog, chances are you’ll check out that blog right?

How To: Sell a blog for far more than it is worth: Recently the popular blog Career Ramblings was sold, it has been online for about only 6 months, and was sold for $20K, which is quite impressive, more than what Net Business Blog sold for. How can you sell a blog for way more than it’s really worth?

Taking it to the next level… whaaaat?: Dave has a really interesting post (well in fact 2 posts, you can check out “Taking it to the next level… whaaaat? Part 2“). What is the difference between a horizontal and a dimensional shift? We usually grow on a horizontal level, buying a nicer car, a bigger house and stuff like that… while a dimensional shift means a new mindset is needed in order to grow. Really thought provoking post! Good job Dave!

Rethinking Blogging As A Career: Raj wrote a really good article on Performancing (as always!). Should you expect to make a living, a full-time income from blogging? Or should you go the “freelance” route, and diversify your blogging revenues as Raj did. Take a good look at the diagrams in this post, it’s definitely worth checking it out! And it can potentially make you rethink your whole blogging business. A must read!

The Right Friends Make the Difference: I think we can all agree that surrounding yourself with like-minded people can take your business to a higher level. It’s not exactly what you know, it’s who you know. Surround yourself with the right people and you should see huge changes in your business. There is a quote that says: “I’ve never heard of a rich hermit” (or something like that) - meaning, you cannot do it all on your own. It’s true!

I Can’t Stop Thinking: I love this post! Actually it’s more like a comic strip, and it’s definitely worth reading/seeing! It talks about the music industry and what changed, and what would need to change. Being a musician myself, I can totally relate to this post. This post is pure genius!

The 4 Keys to Reader Comments and Conversation: An excellent post about conversational blogging (which is one of my favorite topics). To me, Liz is the authority when it comes to conversational blogging and engaging in discussions. This is a must read post for anyone serious about blogging relationships and conversations. Before we are “bloggers” we are “individuals”, go read this post! It’s well worth it!

Successful Blogging - Are you Creating Something, or just Reading and Writing?: When you read an insightful and thought provoking post, something that makes you think, what do you do with those informations? Aaron asks a really important question “What do you want your readers to be doing?“. How would you answer that question?

Thanx for reading, please take some time to check out these awesome posts, I hope you enjoy them as much as i did! Take care!

  1. Jonathan,

I appreciate the Link Love and for your support! The more I think about taking things to the next level with blogging, the more I WANT to think about it!

I was sitting at the beach yesterday staring out at the water and thinking about organizing personal development events for bloggers. Sheesh - I think I’m hooked! ;)

  2. Aaron, you’re more than welcome! I feel the same way! The more I think, the more I want to think!

Hey personal development events for bloggers? Tell me more! :)

  3. Nice batch of links you’ve got here, I’ll give them a look-see in one minute :)

  4. Hey Scot! yeah well I usually list 5 on sundays, but this time I just wasn’t able to decide, so 9 posts instead of 5! :)

    Have a good read!

  5. Jonathan,

Oh, how my mind is turning! I’m mulling over quite a few concepts, and I’ll definitely let you know when I’ve got something concrete.

I’d be surprised if it all isn’t hooked into the new and improved Personal Development Partners site that I am building, so keep an eye out for more info on that! :)

  6. Aaron, you bet I will keep an eye (both eyes) out for that! :)

  7. Thank for sharing your wonderful discoveries Jonathan. In fact, isn’t that a major component of what blogging is all about? Thanks for the reminder!

  8. Hi Daniel, I’m happy you like it, I really enjoyed these posts! (and I bookmarked one of yours for next round also :) )

  9. You found some great links. I think I am now going to go back and look at more smart posts from the past.

  10. Hi Andrew, thanx a lot. Hey that makes me think, I should probably include a list of previous “smart posts” in my new posts. Thanx :)

  11. Thanks Jonathan. Circumstances have changed for me, but I appreciate the support.

  12. Hi Armen, you’re welcome. I just read your post on your blog and left a comment. Although I find it sad to see a great blog go, I completely understand. All the best to you! Take care (and keep in touch, my skype button is on my “about” page) :)

  13. wow this is a great list, I actually stayed on here for a while an opened most of them in a new window

    great collection

  14. Hi Ian, I’m happy you enjoyed the list! :)

  15. Thanks for the nod, Jonathan. I was just catching up on my RSS browsing and going through your latest posts and noticed this one. I think my post scared a lot of people because unlike others I’ve written this one received 4 comments - 1 by me and 2 by a colleague who knows me well.

Truth: I was trying to scare new bloggers into considering their options now, not after they put their heart and soul into blogging and find they’re not the next Darren Rowse.

  16. Hey Raj, I loved your post man, really thought provoking, and it really made me think a lot.

I think maybe what you wrote was spot on, and yeah maybe it scared some bloggers, reason it didn’t get many comments, but still I’m sure it made many people think.

I’m don’t have your level of experience, although I can say I’m getting better every time I post, what you wrote really made me think, which was the purpose of the article :)

I just hope it also made others rethink their blogging career, or at least see it a little differently.

  17. Hmm, yes, you’re right. The point was in fact to get people to think about their options and hopefully not to get discouraged that their blogging alone isn’t earning a lot of money. I’m glad it made you think :)

  18. Raj, I can totally relate to that, although I do make some nice money from my blog, it’s definitely not a full time income, a big part of it comes from helping others fix stuff on their blogs, and customize a design and similar things.

It made me think, that’s for sure :)
