Smart Posts Worth Reading #8

Writing for Reddit: Steve wrote an excellent in depth article on how to write posts/articles that usually do well on Reddit. We all know that social media sites can send a massive amount of traffic, and Reddit is, I think, a nice place to start. Thanx for all the tips Steve!

Do Bloggers Always Follow Their Own Advice?: Ben from InstigatorBlog asks really good questions! Do you follow your own advices? I usually try to, but, like Ben, my blog archives are there to remind me! :) What about you?

Handling Negative Comments: Do You Have a Volunteer Fire Department?: It’s never fun having to handle negative comments on a blog, but it kinda makes things easier when you have many supporters (a Volunteer Fire Department) that can help you out and come to the rescue. And, no need to stress cause of negative comments, usually those are the ones that make you move forward.

Have a Plan to Overcome Boredom?: Have you ever had to sit through a reunion or presentation and couldn’t help but yawn? What is it that either a teacher or learner can do to overcome that boredom? It happened to me so often when I was working in sales and marketing and had to go to reunions and sit there, trying to stay awake during powerpoint presentations.. not funny. Asking questions (provided you can) is a good way to overcome that boredom.

Web Traffic - I’ll Take Quality Over Quantity: Char always comes up with interesting posts, and this one is no different. What would you prefer? A huge wave of traffic from Social Networking/Bookmarking sites, or a link and mention from a higher authority blog? I’m with Char on this one, I’d take quality over quantity any day! :)

That’s about it for this edition of the “Smart Posts Worth Reading”, hope you’re having a nice Sunday :)

  1. I just started a blog–two months ago.

I am always amazed at how many SEO outfits are still pushing highly suspect link exchanges, encouraging link farms, etc.–the kind of stuff that I would have thought went out years ago.

Only one way, as far as I’m concerned: good back-links. This was the sole method I used to push my little web site to a PR 3.

  2. some sites may have a lot of visitors… SEO techniques matters but are those visitors your target market? I still believe in quality over quantity…

  3. Hey Jack, good job on the PR3, next update is coming soon, gotta get our virallinks and links farms up! (kidding lol) :)

Hi Melo, I’m into “quality over quantity” also. Many SEO blogs have a PR6 or something and rarely get any comments and not much traffic, I prefer a PR4 and great interaction with my readers :)

  4. Thanks for the mention! I am glad you liked the post. I am honored to be in such good company, too.

  5. Hi Char, you’re welcome, it was a great read, thanx! :)

  6. I have always wondered this too. I think most of them do, because you can better tell your readers about how effective they have been for you, but for the people who simply regurgitate content, heck no.

  7. Hi Cooliojones, you guyz are awesome, that I can say! :)

  8. Hi Jonathan, I read a wonderful summary of the methods you used to climb up as a “top blogger” on Christine O’Kelly’s blog. What an honor it is to have a “top blogger” shout a post from my site. Cool. And, thanks.

  9. Jon - As usual, these are all thought provoking resources. That’s the first time that I’ve seen a profile of a Reddit reader - interesting!

Robyn - thanks for reading about Jonathan over at my blog! He’s an amazing guy!!

  10. Hi Robyn, thanx, I’m glad you liked the interview :) You’re welcome for the link, I really enjoyed your post!

  11. Christine, yeah same for me, I really liked this post, good stuff on there, Steve is a great writer :)

Thanx a bunch for the FastPitch thing Christine, that is sooo cool! :)

  12. One of the best ways to get links from authority sites is by having huge success via the social sites.

Maybe Char has not yet experienced both?

    Dean

  13. Hey Dean, oh I’m sure Char got links from high authority sites, as well as social sites :)
