Watch Your Health - Take A Break
Add to : Del.Icio.Us / Reddit / Digg / Stumble Upon
How long have you been sitting there drinking coffee and working on whatever you are working on?
Well, take a break! Go for a walk, head to the gym… hey your health is important! Really! What would happen if you could not sit down on a chair for more than 30 minutes because your back hurts? (it happpened to me once many years back when i was working in a call center, and let me tell you it hurts bad!)… well, you surely wouldn’t be blogging huh? Better be safe than sorry, so watch it!
And i’m not suggesting you take a break and go for a walk just because i care about your physical health, but because it can help a bunch on your creativity too! You have no idea what to write about? Well, go read some other blogs, then before heading back to your own site to write that new post…go outside, play with your kids, your dog, or go training… but whatever you do, don’t write that post right away! You want a fresh perspective, fresh eyes, clear your mind, and then go ahead, and write that post! You’ll notice the difference!
You wanna be wealthy, or rich? Or both? Well start by making a smart decision.. take a break sometimes!

Hi Jon! Interesting post. I wrote similar posts a few months ago, called “Get Fit as a Blogger” and “Reduce Stress while Blogging” it has a lot of good advices about health and all that stuff, good work.
Thanks for this post Jon. I have a sprained neck these days and am going for physiotherapy. I would like to blame this to an old motor bike accident injury, but thats not true. Spending endless hours in front of the computer and sitting at odd angles was the cause of this sprained neck (laptops allow the comfort of positioning yourself at supposedly relaxed postures). I am taking care now.
I got to check out the two post mentioned above by George too.
Always a pleasure visiting your blog.
Cheers mate.
Great post! This all goes back to that balance between work / life / health / family / etc.. You can look at someone and guess pretty easily if they are out of whack. Even though its tough, I think that keeping physically active is something that is truly important and valuable from a personal and professional level. I find that trying to stay fit increased my productivity during the rest of the workday. Would you agree? Keep up the great work and keep running ;).

Hey George, Robin and Kendall! Thanx for replying!
George, i’ll check out those 2 posts (and also your 300 quality posts), feel free to link to your posts in your replies, i will enable the dofollow plugin soon :)
Robin, i know what you mean mate! Gotta take care of that, you don’t want that sprain neck to develop into something worse, physiotherapy should help a lot! Have you tried Yoga?
Kendall, i totally agree, it helps being more creative and focus more on your work, and helps reduce the possible injuries, like Robin said. It helps a bunch on a personal level too, like you said! More alert, and focussed, leading to better relationships!
Makes me think i haven’t been consistent in my Yoga practice, not that i do Yoga a lot, but it helped me with a lot of things so far (wrist problems from playing guitar, tendinitis). Gotta get back to it! :)
Excellent post Jon. When I’ve got a million things on the go and I don’t know where to start, I just get out and take a walk.
Somewhere in between staring at the sky and engaging in mindless chit-chat it all gets figured out. When I get back, I’ve got a plan and I’m ready to roll.
Hi Shane! Thanx a lot!
Yeah it happens to me a lot (and it happpens all the time with guitar playing, when i’m composing or arranging a song or something) just go take a walk, chat with someone (offline that is), or a great way that you mentionned above: stare at the sky!
