What Are Your Blogging Or Business Goals For This Summer?
Add to : Del.Icio.Us / Reddit / Digg / Stumble Upon
For me, here in Montreal, summer means sunshine, nice weather, drinks with friends, outdoors, but of course I have business and blogging goals, some are very similar to my “winter goals“, but I though it would be interesting to ask you, fellow entrepreneurs, writers, bloggers, what are your goals for this summer?
Nate Whitehill wrote a really good post, asking his readers if they reached their goals for May, and what goals they have set for June, so I thought I could answer that on here! And ask you folks, what are your goals for this summer? (not just for June, but for the whole summer) Either business goals or blogging goals or both.
Relationships - Conversations
My main goal with this blog is to make people think, and engage in discussions. I strongly believe that blogging is all about conversations. And my main goal for this summer is to keep on improving my blog, my writing skills, my posts, so that people will engage even more in discussions and share their knowledge, expertise and thoughts. There is already a little more than 1800 comments on SmartWealthyRich, and, although I don’t care “that much” about numbers, I always have this warm feeling when I check my e-mails in the morning and see that there is 12, 30 or 40 new comments, and I feel the same way when I wake up in the morning and there is only 1 or 2 new comments, every single comment is appreciated! You guyz add so much value to my posts! My goal this summer is to keep on working and writing so that you will keep on commenting, replying, sending me e-mail, and participating! ;)
Ahh! Those Numbers!
Well, of course, if a blog recieves no traffic it is more likely not to get a lot of comments. I write because I love to write, but also because I wanna share and learn, and putting my blog in front of more people is awesome! So increasing my traffic, my rankings, my rss subscribers numers are really important to me (without sacrificing the quality, of course). I’m now at around 230 RSS Subscribers (thank you very very much), my technorati rank is getting better everyday. So, by the end of the summer, I want at least 750 RSS subscribers, my blog to be in the top 5000 in technorati, and an alexa rank in the 40K. Those are the goals I have set for myself and my blog.
Revenues and Opportunities
If you run a blog, you probably already make money with it, directly or indirectly. Writing reviewme or sponsoredreviews reviews, adsense, affiliate products, sponsored links. One of my goals with this blog is to increase my revenue, a full time income from blogging is something feasible, I know many people who do make a living with their blogs, and I want no less than a full-time income. I’m not there yet, but I’m working on it. It’s not hard to make money with a blog, but a good portion of my “blogging” income comes from things I do outside of my blog, like customizing a wordpress theme, moving a blog to a new server, guest blogging, ghost writing. So when talking about monetization, I mean “multiple streams” of income, not only with this blog but with other projects and internet businesses (yep, I’m still looking for people for that new multi-author blog I’m working on!)
Personal/Offline Goals
Many of you already know I’m a musician, and that I’m working on an album with my band. So one of my main goals is to get this album out by the end of the summer. I hear you say “this has nothing to do with blogging”.. you’re right, but it is one of my main goals anyway! ;) And i wouldn’t be able to write and manage my blog if I was doing only that and nothing else, I need to do “something different” and music is my passion, so I work a lot on that, and I’m enjoying it every step of the way!
So what are your goals for this summer?
It ain’t hard to achieve success and reach your goals, but a proven and tested method is always helpful. Tony knows what he’s talking about!
Wanna get your blog to the next level? Increase your numbers, more traffic, more comments, more money? Do you run an online business? An offline business? Let’s talk about it! What are the actions you will take this summer to reach your goals? It’s really easy to lose focus when the weather is nice and you wanna go outside and all, but if you want to reach your goals you have to set priorities and take action, and also take some time to enjoy life! So, please share your thoughts, and tell us what your “summer goals” are! This will benefit everyone! Make yourself at home and let’s start a conversation! ;)

Work out more. If I can accomplish this during the summer I will consider it a success.
Hi Goldy! Working out is really important, feels good, more energy, more focus, easier to reach our goals! :)
Jonathan,
Great minds think alike! I just posted something similar over at my site, and I’m calling it the 10,000 Fists to Freedom Challenge!
Personally, I’m totally jacked about what this summer is going to hold and the lofty goals that I am going to attain. I’m encouraging others to get out of their comfort zones and set some exciting goals as well.
My personal goal is financial independence by the end of 90-days, and the clock started ticking today!
I linked to my post on the topic, so if you want to check it out, just click on my name.
Great post, Jonathan! :)
Aaron, your post is brilliant and moving! And of course you mentionned Disturbed in your post which is way cool! ;)
I took your challenge! You can send the $100 to my paypal account right now if you want, cause I’m well on my way, and not planning to stop! :)
I’m keeping my goals on the day-to-day track this month.
The reason is, I need to get out and enjoy the summer some. Recharging by stepping out helps me bring back new ideas on a regular basis.
I’m also trying to look at goal setting as Valentine’s day … should it only be once a year? How about every day or least 2 or 3 times a week?
At least, that’s how I’m justifying all this! haha
Hey Shane, good idea! Recharging is really important. I usually try to set goals for the day, then for the week, the month, and for a 3-4 months period. Re-evaluating every week is good (baby-steps!)
hehe I love the Valentine’s Day comparison! :)
My goal is to come up with a routine to use my “blogging time” more effectively. More time writing posts, taking photos, creating content, getting links, marketing my blogs and less time spent on checking my stats, reading countless blogs about blogging, wasting time in forums, etc.
I have a 9-5 job and also spend time with my two young kids when I get home. I don’t start my blogging time until around 9-10pm. Sometimes I’ll sit in front of the computer until 1am and not create one post. The goal is to work smarter.
Anthony, I hear you! It ain’t easy to come up with a routine. 9-5 job, familly life.
Well, what I do, when I know I don’t have time on a particular day, I try to think of a topic during the day, and then if at any moment I feel creative, I’ll call my voice mail, and leave myself a message, so that when I come back home I won,t have to “try to find something” :)
I’ve been reading the 4 hour work week, and probably the best tip I’ve gotten from the book, is to only check email twice a day. I’m a very busy person with a business and a family, and checking twice a day has saved me SO much time. You don’t realize how much time you waste just staring at your inbox, and instantly replying to unimportant emails (most are!)…
Hi Buxr! welcome to SWR!
You bring a really good point, I can check my e-mails many many times a day (I moderate all comments on SWR, so I check often, and approve or delete comments) it’s true if i was to read my e-mails only twice a day, I would definitely be more productive, and of course that means reacing my goals faster! :)

Hi Jon!
I read this on cnn.com last month:
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) May 14, 2007– As more American consumers forego crowded malls for the convenience of online shopping, total Internet-related sales are forecast to jump 19.1 percent to $174.5 billion in 2007, excluding travel, according to a new industry report Monday.
Since one of the sub-topics you mentioned is “Revenues and Opportunities”, this news item might serve as a goal/inspiration for some of us out here.
Hey RK, umm now that’s interesting, that means there is definitely room for 71 million blogs hehe
Staying organized and keeping the household tasks from interfering with work are the two biggest obstacles that I face.
Lizzie my finance and I work together at home. We did move up to the third floor office, but the heat has pushed us back down to the kitchen table. A dedicated work space is a beauteous thing which also helps with the organization. As of this moment, the kitchen table is strewn with debris.
But this to shall pass.
Hey Adam! I agree buddy! Staying organized, and your desk clean and all helps a lot (note to self: clean your desk Jonathan)
You could always install an air cond. in that room on the 3rd floor ;)
My goal is to keep at the blogging. This is my first foray into the world of blogging; 4 months in and you soon realise just how tough it is!

Jonathan,
We have AC in the windows, but the problem is that it has no insulation. Might need a newer, bigger AC unit.
Oh, I do have a few goals for June.
Get married and get back from the Honeymoon without injury.
Get my taxes done.
Adam, awesome goals! Getting married, that’s wonderful! hehe and getting back without injury? ;)
I also want to get married this summer, hopefully in Australia. Oh yeah, make tons of money!!!
hehe, getting Married in Australia, sounds like a nice plan!
Great post as usual, Jonathan. Good luck on your goals - I know you will not only achieve, but surpass them!
Nate, thanx, I’ll do my best! Good luck to you buddy! You’re already doing a really great job!
My goal is to work smarter rather than longer, esp. in the summer when it’s too nice to be stick indoors staring at a computer screen and waiting for inspiration to strike. I’m trying to put together a few posts at a time when time/the writing is coming easily so that they’re all set to publish, to keep to a schedule of sorts, giving me more free time.
Hi Lois, welcome to SWR, make yourself at home! :)
Smarter and not harder is the way to go. I too, try to write many posts at once, so when something unexpected happens, I can still timestamp a post, good productivity tip.
Wow, how time flies. It is very good to revisit older posts.
Here it is into July. We have a new office, and are now married.
Guess I need some more goals for the rest of the summer…hmm..
Congrats on the wedding Adam! That is so cool! :)
