What Is A RSS Feed?

Ok, first of all, here’s the Wikipedia definition of a RSS Feed (will open in a new window).

Now here’s the brief definition (for those of you who want to know right aways instead of reading the whole wikipedia document):

Users of RSS content use programs called feed ‘readers’ or ‘aggregators’: the user ’subscribes’ to a feed by supplying to their reader a link to the feed; the reader can then check the user’s subscribed feeds to see if any of those feeds have new content since the last time it checked, and if so, retrieve that content and present it to the user.

RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication“, it is a format used to “syndicate” the content of a weblog (blog), news site and other types of Web 2.0 content. For example, take smartwealthyrich.com, there is content on this website, articles, posts, pages.. all of the content can be “syndicated” and appear on other websites, using a RSS feed, which looks like this: http://smartwealthyrich.com/feed/

You can browse the net, find websites that offers a RSS feed, and subscribe to that feed, and then read their news using a RSS reader, here’s a short list of rss feed readers (i like netvibes a lot):

Netvibes
Feedburner
Bloglines
Feedlounge
Newsgator
Yahoo Reader
Google Reader

Of course, there is a lot more rss feed readers out there than just the ones that are on this list (you can also check technorati, for example).

What is really cool about RSS is that you can subscribe to as many feeds as you want, and read the new post all on one site instead of having to go and visit tens or hundreds of blogs/sites, so it’s really convenient! Of course it’s always a good idea to visit the blogs anyway and read the comments, and of course participate in the discussions, that’s what makes blogs interesting! Participate, share, learn, syndicate! :)

Hope this was helpful!

And here’s my RSS Feed link (add this to your news/feed reader), Or you can recieve update by e-mail, delivered by feedburner (will open in a new window).

Thanx!
