Smart Wealthy Rich

What Is Wealth?

What is “wealth”? Is being more wealthy means having more money? What do you think?

Wealth isn’t “money”! Money is a fairly recent invention if you look at the big picture of human history… It is a way to “move” wealth! Because wealth if more like “the things we want”, like the new car, those clothes, the food… So being more “wealthy” doesn’t necessarly mean having more money…But living in a specialized and technological world, how would you get a pencil? You can’t really make one yourself, but you want/need a pencil, so you have to get it from someone else, a company that specializes in making pencils!

And you give that company/store money in order to get the goods you want! You trade money for a pencil! But this company is not exactly “making money” they are “making wealth”, by providing people with things they want/need, in exchange for money!

Money is not wealth, it’s is the stuff that money can buy that can be considered wealth!
Wealth is relative, for someone it may mean having a hundred dollars more, while it can mean a million dollars for someone else!

I really like the wikipedia definition (i’m a big fan of wikipedia!) :)
Here it is:

Wealth relates more to the flow of resources while richness relates more to the static absolute value.

Wealth simply means “well-being”… with or without money, you can be happy and well! But in our society (depending on where in the world you live, wealth means something different!) money is there to acquire wealth!

My thoughts! (with the help of wikipedia hehe)

  1. This post reminded me of the movie, The Pursuit of Happiness, where will Smith and his son are staying in bathrooms, homeless shleters, etc…but still have each other. Wealth doesn’t have to be money.

Keith Urban is my favorite musical artist…hands down. In his song “But for the Grace of God” there’s a line that says: “he walks around his empty home, surrounded by his things…and silently I say…a little prayer…”

    Haha, keep posting.

  2. Yeah saw that movie! Wealth doesn’t have to be money, but money surely helps being more wealthy (buying stuff).

Thing is in today’s society, is that money can “buy” wealth (don’t get me wrong, that is real fine i think, it’s just a “way”), compared to hundreds/thousands years ago, you would “exchange” wealth in order to get more of something else (like if you were specialized in something you would build/make that thing and exchange it for something you lack, thus creating more wealth for everyone).

    Great reply Bryan! :)

  3. Persoanlly I dont think being wealthy has too much to do about money. One can be money rich and spiritually a pauper, end result MISERABLE life. I have seen and met a lot of people who had barely enough for daily needs but were happy and there were people who were rich and very unhappy.

So being wealthy is more about being happy . Personally I know I will never be rich and honestly I dont want to be rich either. I dont see how two million dollars would make me happy today. I am happy and content with the way my life is going on, enjoy life one day at a time, grab the moment, help somebody and thanks the LORD for all the blessings.

Its always a pleasure to visit your blog Jonathan.

    Cheers.

  4. I agree, for me it’s not the whatever amount of money that would make me happy, but more what i would do with it, like the wealth it would bring, don’t get me wrong my goal is to be financially free! And I just think having money would help me help others (participate in wortwhile causes, charity, donations, help people).

Money is simply today’s way of acquiring wealth, but one can certainly be happy without the 2 million dollars, that’s for sure. I don’t have millions and i’m a really happy and positive person, but still i want to be financially free. :)

  5. […] that would lead to more financial independence, thus giving me the ability to create more wealth (read my post about wealth here) and help […]
