Where Can I Find You?

There is a ton and a half community sites out there, where you can create a profile, write a couple of lines about yourself, and start networking. I had a lot of people ask me what my StumbleUpon profile is, or my Blogcatalog (even though the widget is right there in my sidebar..!) page, or Netscape or Digg usernames.

So, here it is, a list of most of the community sites, social networking and bookmarking sites I belong to. But of course, the best place to look for if you wanna talk/chat with me, is right here, on my blog ;)

  • Stumble Upon
  • BlogCatalog
  • Mybloglog
  • Technorati
  • Bumpzee
  • Digg
  • Reddit
  • Flickr
  • Bloglines
  • Netscape
  • Del.Icio.Us
  • Twitter
  • Spicy Page
  • Now, Where Can I Find You?

Well, no need to list all that when replying to the post and writing your comment (unless you feel like it hehe), but let us know what community/networking/bookmarking site you use the most? I’m on blogcatalog quite often I should say, and I really like StumbleUpon. What about you?

    Add to : Del.Icio.Us / Reddit / Digg / Stumble Upon

    1. Social networking is quite a time consuming endeavor, don’t you think? Nonetheless, it’s enjoyable. So far, I’m only on MyBlogLog and Technorati at the moment. What is it about BlogCatalog and StumbleUpon that you find most useful?

    2. I agree, social networking is time-consuming, but I get so much out of it that I keep on visiting and being involved in the communities. I found business partners, fiends, blogging gigs, design gigs, and I found people to help me when I started out (especially Liz Strauss).

BlogCatalog: there is a really active forum there that I read and post a lot on, actually the time spent there is usually rewarded by rss subscribers, or paid blogging gigs, it’s part of my business. And of course you can read and join in the conversations. A hundred people can do more together than one can do alone.

StumbleUpon: excellent source of traffic, depending on who submits my posts, I can get anywhere between 600% to 1300% more traffic than “normal” days, only because of SU, and of course I got to meet some really nice people on SU also :)

Networking online is a lot like networking offline, you neveer know who you’ll meet tomorrow, and when you look back you realized you met so many nice people, and a lot of them are now friends or business partners, or regular visitors and readers.

    3. Thanks so much for the info, Jonathan. Would you mind if I quoted part of this in my freelance writing/marketing blog?

    4. Brenda, I don’t mind at all, if you put a link that points to my post, it’s real fine with me! I’m happy you find parts of what I wrote worth quoting :)

    5. […] left on his blog about a post on the expansiveness of the blogging community and networking sites, Jonathan C. Phillips […]

    6. Jonathan,

I still need to get around to doing one of these posts on my site. It’s great info for your readers to have, and I’ve added you to the social networks where we were not already hooked up.

I limit myself to just a few of the ones that I like best, but I’ve got you added as a friend and/or joined your community in all of those.

If I can steal Brenda’s great idea, here are the inline text links to the services that I use: MyBlogLog, StumbleUpon, BlogCatalog, Digg, and Technorati.

Thanks for continuing to lead the way, Jonathan! :)

    7. Aaron, thanx, I added you on Digg, we were already friends on MBL, BC and SU ;)

I try to limit myself also, makes me think I should probably drop twitter hehe

    8. faceboob, amazon, youtube, brightcove and many more.

    9. I used to hate these sites, because I thought they weren’t worth dealing with spam. I’ve changed my mind about several of them. I really like Blog Catelog and MyBlogLog. I’m new on StumbleUpon and am just learning how it works.

    10. Anthony, same happened with me, at first I was wondering why people would bother wwith “another” myspace, but soon realized there was a lot of nice people, and also a lot of profesionals on blogcatalog and mybloglog (I met Liz Strauss on mybloglog) :)

Millennium Mommy, “faceboob”? you mean “facebook”? hehe

    11. I seem to go in phases with each of these. I have been on twittering for a couple weeks. I am a fan of Mybloglog as well. Dabbled with Blogcatalog, but can I really see the potential for it.
I also have a ton of pics on Flickr, but have yet to get much of a network going.

Perhaps a Blog should have a separate page for all the networks that they participate.

    12. Adam, I’m also a huge fan of BlogCatalog, and Mybloglog also. Not so much into twittering though. I recently joined Flickr, can definitely see the potential.

Good idea, a page listing all the social networks, will most probably add that soon

    13. I’ve received traffic from Stumble Upon, but sadly I’ve never really used it.

Linked-In users keep spamming me for connections, so maybe that’s where I need to be :)

    14. I get quite a bunch of traffic from SU, but it really depends who stumbles my posts and how :)

Never really used LinkedIn, it seems nice, but never got around to really read and get involved, but will surely do eventually

    15. I’ve always liked stumbleupon and I’ve just recently joined mybloglog to see what the fuss is about.

    16. I love StumbleUpon also, Mybloglog is nice, getting quite a lot of traffic from there and met really nice people, but since some time I’m on BlogCatalog a lot more.

    17. I’m addicted to StumbleUpon. I frequent Technorati, Twitter and Digg. (I have to have my daily dose of Digg.) And, of course, one of my own projects, Happy Posts. (Sorry for the blatent self promotion, Johnathan!)

    18. Markius, no prob for the self-promotion, I think Happy Posts is a brilliant idea!

I do like my daily doose of Stumbling, I’m not a big fan of Digg though, SU does it for me :)

    19. I use BC but of late have been rather frustrated and feel it is not the place for somebody like me who is asking questions because I want to learn more. I am also on SU but again, do not really understand how it works. I am also listed with Technorati. I have an ever increasing solid core of comments on my blog each day and average 500+ visitors a week. I keep track of the comments and network with frequent visitors/commenters. I would like some guidance.

    20. Hi Denise, I would be really happy to help you out if you need any help, ask away!

i find the people at BC to be really helpful and respectful, that’s why I spend so much time on there. I think it’s a really good place, if you’re looking to learn more, and find some people to help you out with stuff.

As for SU, I will have a post soon explaining it, how it works, benefits, features and all. SU is one of my favorite site. I’ll keep you posted on that ;)

    21. […] has a groovy post, “Where Can I Find You?” about Social Networking sites, which I will be blogging about later in a more extensive […]

    22. Hi Jonathan,

Great post. I have only being ACTIVELY involved with MBL. I ensure I visit it regularly and it has become my plan to add to my list of friends and visit as many blogs as possible.

I haven’t connected much with the members though, but I have the list of those I wish to work with in the nearest future.

On reading about SU, I am just creating and account and will definitely add you when I am done.

keep up the great work man. You’ve made my day ;)

    23. Hi Adebola, MBL is really nice, although I really prefer blogcatalog, they inccluded a discussion forum and a blog and some nice features that makes me wanna come back every day.

About SU, add me to your friends when you’re signed up, right now I have reached my 200 friends limit, but I need to delete some, so I’ll have room soon and will add more friends

    24. Oops…forgot more from my list. 43 Things, Blue Dot, Ryze, Linkin, Ning, and Orkut.

    25. Hi digitalnomad! I really like 43 things also, it’S a great site. I have accounts with Orkut, Ryze, and Ning, but haven’t really got around to use them yet. I used Ryze quite a bbit before, but got a little tired of it, I prefer social networking sites like blogcatalog, MBL and SU. I’m not sure why, but I’d go with Myspace anyday before going with Ryze. The interface isn’t the most user-frienddly let’s say. I really like Ning though ;)

    26. MyBlogLog and Bumpzee are two of my favorites. I really like being able to put a face to some of my comment posters and fellow bloggers.

    27. Hi Zac, welcome to SWR, make yourself at home!

I really like mybloglog too, although I’m on blogcatalog more often (discussion forum and other nice features). I agree with you Zac, it’s always nice to “see” who visits your blog. Makes things more human and personal.

    28. One of our new members just listed smartwealthyrich.com as an influential blog - I have to say I’m not disappointed, it’s a great example of how FindLikeMinds.com works. It’s important that Social networks move away from the superficial and deliver more meaningful, longer lasting connections, which is why we connect people on what’s influenced their lives not just on who’s in their network.
I’ll look forward to your next posts Jonathan thanks for a great blog.

    29. Hi Rob, wow, I’m really flattered. I just signed up on findlikeminds, so far it sounds pretty good. I really like the way you put it: “ move away from the superficial and deliver more meaningful, longer lasting connections .

Thanx a lot for writing Rob, please make yourself at home!

    30. Jonathan - You’re welcome.

      ps. a small point it’s FindLikeMinds.com! ;-)

    31. oops, sorry ’bout that, that’s what happpens when you’re trying to do many things at once, I edited my comment ;)

    32. Well, taking the advice of a very savy blogger….I am on blogcatalog and Stumbleupon. Your site should be smart wealthy rich….. and helpful!

    33. Hey Robin! so I’d have to get smartwealthyrichhelpful.com? :)

    34. Great list. For various reasons, I’d also add, the following:
      1. Gather.com
      2. Ning.com
      3. Terapad.com
      4. Zaadz.com (Wonderful guy behind this one. MSNBC did a brief story on them earlier this month. And Zaadz has lots of the right features that makes it feel like a community - at least to me.)

Oh, by the way: I’m kinda likin’ this little place called um, SmartWealthyRich.com, too! :-)

    35. Hello, thanx a lot for the nice comment! Appreciate it a lot! :)

I’m already a member of Ning, so far it’s good, I will check out the others ones you listed for sure!
