Working With The BlogCatalog Team - I’m Thrilled! ;)

I’ve been a member of the BlogCatalog community since April this year, and if you’ve been reading this blog for the past weeks/months, or if you’re a member of BlogCatalog, you probably already know how much I like BC, I’ve written about it many times, and I’m quite active on the discussion board.

Now it’s even better! Tony Berkman, who runs BlogCatalog contacted me a couple of days ago, and asked me if I’d be interested in joining the team, and work with BC. Of course, I accepted.

I’ll be working with a bunch of really cool folks! I’m so thrilled Tony asked me!

So, What Are The Plans?

You know how much I like social networking and community sites. Well, I’ll keep networking of course, and I’ll probably also write on the BlogCatalog Blog, will also answer questions you may have regarding BC, and share my ideas and suggestions with the BC team to try to make BlogCatalog an even nicer place to hang at. My role/title/job would be something like “blogger liaison“, I think it sounds good hehe

If you need help with the BC widgets, or have questions, I’ll be happy to help! :)

On another note, this is a paid position. I want to be as transparent as possible, and honest as possible. So I thought I’d let you know about this. The fact I’m getting paid for working with BC won’t change anything for you guyz, except I’ll try to come up with ideas that will make BC better (which I hope will benefit you), and help you out if you’re having difficulties with BC.

What About MyBlogLog?

I received quite a bunch of e-mails regarding the recent announcement on the MyBlogLog Blog about the “advisory group“.

It is true, Robyn, community manager at MyBlogLog, invited me a while ago to join the MBL Advisory Group.

Unfortunately, with the launch of FreelanceFolder, I didn’t have time to really get involved with the MBL advisory group.

So, to make things clear and avoid confusion, I just wanna let you know I’m not on the MBL advisory team anymore. As much as I found this opportunity interesting (Thank you very much Robyn!), I had to a choice to make. And decided to go with BlogCatalog. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with MyBlogLog, I’m still a member, and I like their services, it’s just at some point you got choices to make. (can’t be on both teams)

Voila!

If you have any questions, please leave a comment below, or drop me an e-mail. :)

Here’s the official announcement on the BlogCatalog discussion board and on the BlogCatalog Blog.

Take Care!

  1. Congratulations Jon! I think your expertise will fit in nicely.

  2. Thanks a lot Anthony! :)
    I’ll do my best!

  3. congrats on the new job.
enjoyed your blog and added you to my fav in technorati for daily updates please feel free to add me too

  4. Jonathan,

Hole cow - you are turning into quite the Internet celebrity!! :)

For my money, I can think of no one more eminently qualified from both a technical standpoint as well as a community building standpoint than you, Jonathan, and I mean that sincerely.

This is totally awesome news, and I’m looking forward to see what the future will hold now both for you and for BC!

  5. Congrats Jonathan. It is well deserved!

  6. Congrats, and thanks for mentioning the blog catalog blog, I’ll add that to my reader.

Speaking of adding things, while I’m here, I wanted to mention this. After spending a few weeks enjoying many of the Do Follow blogs via the RSS feed, I’m in the process of adding a new section to my blog sidebar with links to my favourite reads. You’re one of them. :)

Whenever I add someone to my sidebar, I Stumble their blog, add them to my Technorati favourites, and link to the blog in my weekly wrap up which is done on Sundays. I hope the stumble brings you a bit of traffic and a few new readers. ;)

It’s sort of like throwing in a free set of steak knives, I guess. ;) hehe

  7. Congratulations Jon, that’s really cool.

Do you like BC moreso than MBL? or both about the same? I’ve never used BC before.

  8. Congratulations on the position Jon. You must be doing plenty of things right to be getting invites from BlogCatalog and MyBlogLog.

  9. Congratulations Jon. Proud of you - will see what BC I can do - probably sign up at BC later on..

  10. Congratulations, Mr. Jon! :-)

  11. Congrats Jonathan! You are a perfect choice for this position. Great that you will finally be getting paid for stuff y0u have been doing anyway. I know how many times you have helped me out!

  12. Jon congrats on that! always glad to see people advance, good luck with whatever ‘liaison’ job they give you!

  13. Great news for BC and all of us !!

  14. Dear Jonathan,

Look at your success! You’re doing a fine job and to tell you the truth, I already thought you were a member of the team. Glad they made it official.

When we had the blip and BC lost their info for about a ten day period, I lost that incredible review you gave me. Very sad about that!

I am also getting ready to have Tony and Daniel help host my “Sleeping Kitten - Dancing Dog!” Combine the two and get me a really cool site. perhaps you all can take a look at both sites and see what I have and how best to give it the schmooze it needs.

    Congratulations again.

  15. Movin’ and shakin’ … congrats Jon!

  16. absolutely fabulous! congrats! :)

  17. Jonathon this comes as sort of a shock, but then again Money does talk!

I knew that you were a loyal supporter of BlogCatalog, but even you commented to me that you did not like the way things were going on regarding the discussion forums though you commented you would not write on the threads.

Well now with you on board I really hope Tony and the BC team will find a way to avoid those situations in the future. I find it funny that they blamed me for the discussions board going to hell. I’m not even there and they are full of gay and God bashing. At least I added something to the community and I hope for the benefit of members the forum boards will change.

Well not to rain on your new Job. Congrats!

  18. congrat john..

hope u success on whatever u did bro..!!

  19. Congrats Jon!

  20. Like I said once earlier, I can smell a WINNER, and you stink….lol. Keep up the good work, congratulations bro.

    Take care and cheers.

  21. wow, thanx so much guyz/galz for the kind words, I’m really thrilled to be working with BC, it’s awesome! :)

Aaron, thanx so much bro, I know you mean it, that definitely made my day!

Snoskred, thanks a lot for the linkage, and stumble (in fact it did bring quite a bit of traffic), appreciate it :)

Deron, thanx! well I like both, MBL is great, and I have the widget there in my sidebar, along with the BC one, one thing is I really like the community on BC and the fact that BC screens the blogs they list, which makes a huge difference.

Erik, I’m probably the one who knows the least what he’s doing to be honest hehe

Calvin, see you on BC, check out the discussion board, I met a bunch of really cool people and the board is very active, I’m sure you’ll like it :)

Theresa, hehe, well I’ve been on the forum since day one. No worries, I will be happy to write another review :)

Rose, thanx a lot! You’re right, I’m a loyal supporter of BC, and I’ve been on there since BC launched the discussion forums (in fact having this job doesn’t change anything really, I was and still am a supporter of BC, no matter if I get paid or not, money doesn’t change anything here). To be honest, the bashing and stuff, that kinda stuff happens on every single forum out there, it is expected, even with a really nice community like BC. It happens.

SJ, thanx a lot, by the way, I haven’t forgot about the interview, I have the questionnaire right here, I just have to go over it again before sending it :)

Robin, hahaha thanx a lot buddy! :)

If you need any help regarding BC, feel free to ask, and stay tuned, some really cool things are coming! :)

  22. Congrats!

  23. btw, you know at the bottom of your posts - how do you add the ’share’ bar onto another blog - as ive always wanted it but have no idea how to set it up on my blog?

  24. Hi Ross, thanx :)
The “share” thing is a wordpress plugin, you can find it here: http://push.cx/sociable

it’s pretty easy to setup, there’s something like 60-70 social networking/bookmarking sites you can put in there (though it would look a little too “busy”) once you upload the plugin, activate it, than go to “options–>sociable” and voila :)

  25. Congratulations! I like your explanation on the MBL issue. Wishing u all the best :)

  26. congrats jon. excellent news good luck in your new job :)

  27. WOW! That is great! Congrats and good luck in your new venture!

  28. Hey Jon!

Whether you’re working with BC or not, hardly makes a difference to me! Cause you were always there to help me out when I was in the woods clueless…. :)

… and I know you’re gonna make it BIG sooner, rather than later….

…. I expressed my trust in you at the BC discussions here (guess you haven’t seen it):

congrats jon! post some more guitar videos or put them on you tube and send me a link…you’re decent from what i saw

  37. Server migration worries have been getting on top of me the last few days so I missed the news.

    Congratulations

  38. First of all, I wish you all success in your new position at BlogCatalog.

    /Patrice

  39. Wow, thanx so much again guyz! It’s getting better and better!

Bryan, try it out, and lemme know what you think. Also stop by the discussion forums, there is a lot of activity there, I’m sure you’ll like it :)

    Patrice, thank you! :)
Yes I will keep the MBL widget on my blog, I think both widgets go well together, and I’m still part of both communities :)

  40. Congrates on the new “job”.
